If Chicago misses the playoffs this season and doesn’t win the draft lottery, then Columbus gets the pick. Blackhawks could have a terrible year and miss out on a top prospect.

When it comes to goalie stats, how good the team in front of you is, is rather important.

Then it would just transfer over to next year...I don't see how this would make Chicago wanna tank.

Lehner can’t let that shot in.

He's a good goalie, but he is not great. Teams need great goalies to win in the NHL.

The Predators give the Wild their first loss of the season. Nashville wins 5-2. Johannsson scored a pair of goals and a rookie goalie was in net for the Predators.

Vegas is 1-4. That's a shame.

Relative to his contract he certainly is. So weird. He was arguably a top 5 defenseman in the league for a few years and just completely fell off a cliff.

Maybe he's ready for retirement after getting paid.

An obvious trade deadline chip. I’d bet he’s an Oiler or back to the Pens

Lucas Raymond had 3 goals and an assist against Chicago. 3 of those 4 points were EV. He now has 7pts in 6 games. Moritz Seider played 23:19, most on the team, and has 5pts in 6 games.

Looks like some draft picks have finally hit for Detroit. If they can make half decent hockey players out of guys like Rasmussen and Zadina they may have a shot at escaping the basement.

Yzerman seems to just ooze greatness and success. Raymond looks very skilled, but Seider is an even bigger story IMO.

Yes, very weird. No one could possibly have predicted this.

Fleury has made a career out of riding the success of the team in front of him, making a few flashy saves so people think he's better than he is, and then falling apart when games are big. There are reasons why 3 different coaches on 2 different teams in 5 different playoff years benched him in big games. And who can forget giving up 4 goals to the Sharks in one 5 minute power play. He gets credit for the 2016 Cup win but he started a single game in that entire run and he got absolutely shelled by Tampa. His last playoff game in Pittsburgh he gave up 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the first period. Not to mention the iconic WJC failure.

He's coasted by on his "likeable" personality, but his career numbers, outside of wins, aren't all that impressive. And his numbers in the playoffs for the Pens from 2010-2015 were absolute abysmal. Six straight playoff runs with a sub .900 sv%. He's actually been much better for Vegas than he was here, but he still couldn't get it done. His only SCF appearance with Vegas, he gave up 4 goals a game to the Caps.

As a Pens fan who has had to deal with a fanbase that has utterly deified this guy, I'm getting a ton of joy from the schadenfreude of this atrocious Blackhawks team exposing how overrated he is. (Forgive me, there are few hockey players I feel more strongly about than this guy. Any criticism of him here in Pittsburgh is treated like blasphemy.)

I find this a bit shocking since most Pens fans I speak with/opinions I read online have the same opinion as you (Overrated, carried by stacked Pens/Knights teams) vs thinking highly of him.

I mean he basically checked out after being traded and had to be talked into even just showing up. It's not like this stint is going to somehow recontextualize the rest of his career. He arguably isn't even really trying. The pitch to him appears to have been, "come out, play some games, see how you like it here and take your paycheck", and it appears that's exactly what he's doing and no more.

Ultimately, Fleury was never a top tier goalie outside of maybe one or two years. The rest of the time, he was largely just... solid. And solid is worth a lot when it stays healthy. Being available, playing a lot of games, is a major skill for a goalie. There are plenty who can't manage it year after year. He did. So while he was definitely overrated a lot of the time, it's possible to overrate his overratedness.
