Probably could have been signed months ago for a bargain compared to what he'll get by seasons end. If he doesn't sign we wont need to worry about the Treliving thread.

Congrats to Johnny!
I was looking and Johnny's currently #2 for points among players currently on the Flames. Not really a surprise, but still interesting is that Lucic is #1
Lucic has 545 regular season points in his career, as well as another 76 in 124 playoff games

Really really really hoping the flames dont blow it and let Johnny walk or trade him at the deadline for a diminished return on whats become probably the best value pick in Calgary arguably all time for the Flames. What a player and to me if the flames don’t stumble though the covid seasons and Peters fiasco Johnny could have got there in less than 500 games.

Maybe the guy does not want to sign here, or maybe he wants in excess of 10 million a year, there are only so many things a GM can control

Probably why a player like that wouldn’t sign an extension until they have to…
Johnny “aw shucks I might as well extend for a bargain before I step my game up in a contract year”.

I think Johnny will re-sign here actually. I won't be surprised to hear of a deal in the near future here.
From this article:
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/the-neg...aus-next-deal/
Comparables:
(post-pandemic) LW Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado: Age 28, 0.75 PPG – 8 years x $7 million AAV
(pre-pandemic) LW Max Pacioretty, Vegas: Age 30, 0.72 PPG – 4 years x $7 million AAV
(pre-pandemic) LW Jamie Benn, Dallas: Age 28, 0.88 PPG – 8 years x $9.5 million AAV
(pre-pandemic) LW Jeff Skinner, Buffalo: Age 27, 0. – 8 years x $9 million AAV
That sounds quite doable actually, If Johnny wanted to be closer to his home could Philly or Jersey even sign him? The Flyers look the the better bet to sign him looking at their cap space right now.
He's going to stay a Flame is my prediction.

People talk about getting rid of him. But honestly how do you replace his production?
I wonder if the flames could win a game without him. Scoring is not a strength of the team.

Yup.
Look at Lindholm's production in Carolina and look at his production in Calgary. That's the difference a Gaudreau makes.

I think the only reason people talk about 'getting rid of him' is they dont want to lose him for nothing july 1st.
Enough about that though hoping we see Johnny get to 1000 in a Flames Jersey!!

Congratulations to Johnny. He is an underrated talent in the game. Such a fun player to watch when he is on his game.

No chance the Flames win without Gaudreau. This team would be so offensively challenged without him. I remember watching the Dube-Lindholm-Tkachuk line attempt to be this team’s first line and they failed miserably. Then with 1/3 of the season left, Sutter moves Gaudreau up to that line and the complexion of that line changed. It was like night and day.
Just to further illustrate my point:
Lindholm’s goal totals without Gaudreau (20-21): 40 games - 9 goals
Lindholm’s goal totals with Gaudreau (20-21): 16 games - 10 goals
Lindholm’s goal totals with Gaudreau (21-22): 4 games - 6 goals
So as everyone can see, Gaudreau with Lindholm is without a doubt, a deadly combination.

I can definitely see a scenario where Johnny re-signs with the Flames. All we heard (mostly from Eric Francis), was that he was going to pack up his stuff and leave for Philly. Well, I just took a look at the Flyers cap situation next season and I honestly don’t think they can afford Johnny.
They’ve got $68 million tied up mostly into forwards and they still have Claude Giroux to re-sign. They’ll likely use a lot of their cap space on defensemen because they already have plenty of high priced forwards. So, Gaudreau at $9M-$10M would be just a luxury they can’t afford as his contract would cripple their cap.

I don't think the dollar value for Gaudreau is that difficult to determine. It's not a mystery what kind of player he is and how much he can produce. If there is a fair deal on the table and he still hasn't taken it, that is not a good sign. If the Flames don't even have a fair deal on the table, that is also not a good sign.

Ok, name me another time that ever happened? Tavares was a one off scenario, almost all star players that want to get a deal done with the club they are currently with do so. That is why you rarely see them move via UFA. You can tell even at the end of his latest interview on NHL.com he wants to be here.

Gaudreau actually assisted on two of those nine!

Off topic, but the closest Gaudreau thread. Is there a back story to why he would tweet this? I understand the friendship and such, but this is kind of random.
