I confess I don't see much of Parayko, but I would think this should have been the contract that D. Nurse got up in Edmonton. What do their fancy Jfresh charts look like side by side?

Only by a small group of posters
Though has been rightly pointed out using his as some sort of example given they let AP walk is hilarious proof of how focused they are on criticizing BT

I agree and it's a bit ridiculous... buuuut this was supposed to be a big offseason with major changes, and Treliving has done nothing. Seattle made the biggest move for this team and it made us weaker overall (not protecting Gio was the right call). No changes to the forward core that has failed miserably and Tre failed to sign or trade Gaudreau. I guess there's still time to make something happen, but it seems unlikely now

I agree, I don’t like the player that much.
But they would lose him as a UFA.

He's not that good.
I would rather have Nurse at his contract then Parayko every day of the week.

Pretty sure good GMs just unilaterally sign players without their knowledge or consent.

Yeah no. Not a chance.
Bias aside, Nurse is a good defenseman and Parayko is also a good defenseman.
Are they worth what they are being paid? Probably not, but I would much rather take Parayko on his contract versus Nurse.

The major problem with both contracts is the term imo. Some GMs seem to not understand that the longer the contract they give out the larger discount they need to get in return. The amount of risk that exponentially grows each year isn't being factored as much as it should lately for some of these contracts. Parayko is a good defenceman though historically and at age 28 seems like they got a relatively good deal assuming he isn't on the decline.
Its crazy how some players like Nurse are being paid top dollar and max term.
Nurse 26- 9.25M for 8 years
Parayko 28 - 6.5 for 8 years
Sturegeon 31 - 7.575m for 7 years
It will be interesting to see which of these contracts end up like Subbans (8 year 9M) or Karlssons (8 year 11.5M).

I agree in that I feel GM's aren't getting enough discount on these 8 year contracts. It's inevitable that most of these will all be bad in the 2nd half of the terms. I get that most GM's are under pressure to win and feel they will deal with it when it happens or won't even be around to clean up the mess but I feel owners here should probably be taking a good look at the long term ramifications before signing off.

Parayko was elite up until 18-19 - culminating with the Blues winning a cup that season.
The last two years he's struggled with back injuries (always a risk), and with having to adjust to losing Pietrangelo on the back end as well.
$6.5M is a fine cap hit IMO, it's the term that's the issue if he can't recover health wise. However the Blues would be the team best positioned to understand his health issues and if he's recovered now.

This should have been the deal Nurse got. Can anybody compare fancy jfresh charts between nurse and Parayko?

This is wrong. Escrow over next 3 years is estimated at 14-18%, followed by 6% after that.

Not saying it’s not a bad contract. Credit where it’s due though, Nurse is a genuine top pairing defenseman and is on the upswing. Colton is a 2nd pairing D, older, declining and has some really concerning back issues. He was pretty bad last year and offers nothing bar being a ‘shutdown’ player, which he isn’t doing a very good job at.
I know people here hate the oilers(I do too) but I suspect those enamoured with Colton did not watch him play last year.
If I had to pick one of the two contracts, I take Nurse 10/10.
In the perfect world you would prefer neither player at those $ figures.

I don't agree with your premise. Do you have numbers to back this up?
