Will they over or under achieve.
Why will forwards "struggle to score"? The Flames were a top-third 5v5 scoring team last year, and that was in a down-season for several of their best offensive forwards. I think they are better this year.

I swear I watched a bunch of one goal loss last year. Maybe it was just a bad dream.

Talent wise they’re in that 20ish range, which is why we should be rebuilding, but the belief is they’ll over achieve because Sutter.

Boy oh boy, really hope we can land Eichel, because otherwise it seems foolish to expect anything but more of the same.

The Flames struggled to keep goals out of their net after they lost Markstrom, and they also struggled on special teams.

Flames D struggled to generate offense last season, and now they've lost their highest scoring Dman this off season.

Could be a long year unless there is a ton of internal growth or Treliving pulls a rabbit out of his hat.

I think as is, the only hope is somehow Coleman clicks with Johnny and Monahan and they can reproduce the magic of 3 yrs ago.

The defense is going to contribute little offense and I am not sold on Markstrom to carry the team

Sutter and 2 defense first forward additions and a big 90% defense /10 % offense D-man joining to Tanev and Hanifin defense first d-men.

The Flames are not planning to out-score their way to victory. They are going to grind and plan on winning low scoring 1 goal games scoring on the PP and counting on Markstrom being their best player.

We all know its not going to be entertaining hockey. Sutter gets results, and I truly believe we will comfortably be a playoff team this year with our first real coach this core has had behind the bench.

I'm definitely a glass half empty fan, but even I had a smirk at these guys rankings. I think we are going to surprise a lot of people next year.

I for one hope we never see Monahan centering Johnny 5 on 5 ever again.

Flames are missing their #1 dman, a good defense will help the forwards to create offense

(i.e. out pass etc)

As for last year

GF/PG, Flames were tied for 19th
PP% they were 21st

Predicting 12-20 range. I think it all comes down to Markstrom/goaltending. Assuming this is the team opening night.

21st seems about right. Also, I think Ottawa and Montreal are ranked too low and Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton too high.

Toronto at 4 raised my eyebrows. Winnipeg at 7 brought up a WTF. Edmonton at 9 I just started laughing. These rankings are maybe the worst I have ever seen as I have no idea how they justify the placing of Seattle. That said Flames at 21 is about where I would put them and their points about rebuilding are bang on.

also, imagine paying for this garbage

LOL they don't love the Flames so they aren't worth the money? The last thing I want from a paid service is homerism. Athletic is great IMO. Well worth the money. This article is a little tongue and cheek even if it was a little jarring when I first checked out the order.

Finish higher in what? Overall standings or WAR? I don't know what WAR means in analytics yet though.

Its not the Flames its the terrible takes overall...you just said you were laughing at their rankings

Jets are the 7th best team in the NHL? Oilers 9th with that D and Mike Smith? Why would I pay for the opinions of people who don't have a clue? I can get that for free obviously

Newsflash you are paying for homerism...its just Oiler homerism

Clearly the Atlantic doesn't know the hockey. Edmonton at 9 is awful. That defense is one thing, they have what could be the worst goaltending duel in hockey if Smith's groins explode.

That team didn't do anything to address its biggest issue, that it can't defend, in fact they might be worse in the key This guy scored advanced stat.

I don't think the Flames are going to be great, but they'll be better then what these smoes think, especially with Sutter pulling the strings.

God I hate the oilers.

That team is a disgusting, despicable, pathetic tire fire with two Art Ross candidates at the top end.

That's it. Just pure garbage.

But the media has been slobbering all over themselves because of that team since they drafted Hall 11 years ago.
