They should really devote resources and time in the next combine.

What options do they have left for a semi-decent goalie? Even assuming they buy out Koskinen?

Also love it. Kuemper is a band aid. And only one year to UFA.

O hey you've reappeared after the first round sweep. Kuemper is better than anything the Oilers have right now.
I will enjoy the steep down hill fall of Smith this year, when he is playing more than 6 teams and has to travel NA wide. Oilers are in for a rude awakening.

Would it be better if he was two years away from UFA? Like Smith?

No point is it’s a steep price to give up for one year of Oft injured Kuemper

For you, yes. For fans that live and die with the team, yes. But this is probably only 20-30% of the season-ticket base. For most casual fans—who, as a collective form the largest cross-section of the market—it is not nearly as palatable.
I agree with the concept of rebuilding, but I totally get why owners are loathe to commit to them.

I think the modern rebuild is also quicker than 15/20 years ago too, with the league becoming drastically younger and more first round picks being NHL ready and ready to play big minutes, coupled with younger free agency.
|
I don't believe this is true. Rebuilding in most cases is still a dacade-long process. The 4-5 year builds by Chicago or Pittsburgh are the exception, NOT the nor..

With the new rules it's such a better chance to pick at the top now if you finish dead last
Guaranteed top 2 now
So next year wright or savoie
Year after Bedard or michkov
I'd be surprised at this point if they didnt get 1 from each year

Maybe you have... I haven't really been on here much days after the oilers got swept and you weren't around, I just recall the level of arrogance going into the playoffs.
Anyway Darcy is an upgrade in my opinion on both Gru and Smith. 39 year old Smith will be coming back down to earth playing 31 teams vs 6.

Just identify the talent and prepare for a full dump and restock. Well done AZ, Gonna get loaded with young talent, just as the King of Arizona becomes a UFA and pulls a Taveras.
Maybe they'll get that new arena around that time too?

They sure were, but almost everyone forgets the years of ineptitude before they struck gold with Toews and Kane.

Leafs have been rebuilding for 54 years. It can be a slow process.

Did the Oilers ever tank for longer than midway through a season where they realized how God awful they were and the beginning of the next season?
