I'd honestly have given the guy more than this. Half a mil and another year, probably.

I think you are misunderstanding what analytics do. They don't simply show who scores points. They show who is doing a better job of creating scoring chances and suppressing scoring chances, among other things.

McCabe does a good job of that, Zadorov doesn't. McCabe's skill would be better compared to Tanev. Neither is particularly offensive, but each does very well analytically.

I will readily admit I know little to nothing about applying analytics to players.

My only point is, we had a defense comprised entirely of one type of defenseman, with nobody who struck any fear into an opposing forward.

Now we do. We haven’t had this type of player since Engelland.

A bad defenseman? Nah, they've had a few.

I get that. But Zadorov would be more fearsome if he was any good.

He’ll need to play sheltered minutes vs. low skill players.

You put him out vs.McDavid and you are pretty much guaranteed to be playing in the defensive zone all shift.

He was one of the reasons why Chicago gave up so many high danger chances last year and why they were so desperate to restructure their defensive corps.

I guess the fact he’s in the top 4 concerns me. Bottom 2 I could live with.

He clearly wanted to play in Chicago, where he and his family already lived.

You can’t really beat that.
