I'm choked to read this even though the writing was on the wall. And glad he is taking care of his health first.

We'll always fondly remember you for pasting Sbisa's face into the boards at high speed Mike.

That 2015 Vancouver series may be the most fun time I had watching the Flames play since 2004 mainly from watching #79 buzz around the ice and getting inside Bieksa's head. CBC did a great job producing that series featuring his mom and his background story (even though I'm not always a fan of their treacly style). My parents lived in the same (modest) neighbourhood as the Ferland family and by all accounts, he was a very friendly person. I always cheered for him and I hope he finds closure and contentment with his career/life.

I'm pretty bad at hockey, so it doesn't take much to impress me. I've played shinny with a guy who was a former U of C player, and it blew me away how much better he was than anyone else.

We had a former Swiss pro show up and play with our team a couple times, and it was pretty not cool how much better he was than anyone else, it didn't seem fair.

Our team lined up against Brent Krahn, and you could tell he was trying to not be "that guy" and would barely play the puck etc. But when he was trying, it was pretty incredible to see.

I can't imagine Ferland showing up in a beer league. I'm sure any NHL plug would absolutely dazzle everyone, Ferland would just be scoring at will.

Ferland overcame some pretty daunting obstacles. Great role model. Hope he continues with initiatives like his youth hockey school.
