The Keep McDavid an Oiler plan: Offense! Just... Offense!
They might employ even less attention to keeping the puck out than before.
Bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for em.
(Can we please see a Barrie-Keith pairing?)

I don't understand this from Barrie's camp. It's not max term, what's the advantage with re-signing a day before free agency?

My guess is there is not much interest in him and his price will only go down when free agency starts. He's still the same player that nobody wanted last year and I don't think other GMs fell for the smoke and mirrors numbers he put up with Edmonton. Signing early with Edmonton is his best bet as I think he loses significant leverage when free agency starts.

Somehow, even though he had a first hand look, the Oilers GM fell for it.

Hmm depending on the cost I’d be okay with trying to find a team to work on an Ethan Bear trade since Oilers likely wouldn’t want to trade him directly to us.

Exactly, Barrie only ended up in Edmonton last year because it was the only chair left when the music stopped.
He doesn't want to get stuck with another one year contract.
Just get your money, hold your nose while you play there for a few years, and get the hell out of there with all your cash when you are done.

Barrie was available to every team last offseason and got a lousy 1 year deal. They might think that this is the best offer they can get.

And with all the tampering talk they may have found out the interest just wasn’t there now.

Again, just optics and BS from the Oilers that he's been wanted around the league but the Oilers were his chosen destination.
Every single move they do and then spin a dramatic story about this offseason is all to placate McDavid.

If Barrie only signs for 3 years in Edmonton at 30 years old it means nobody else has interest in him.
