Yeah, they need to improve their offense from the blueline.

Have run the numbers multiple times over the years and the line in the sand is 150 points. If you get north of 150 pts from your blueline, you are almost certainly in the playoffs. If you get less, you are almost certainly out.

Boston is an ongoing exception, and there are minor variances from year to year, but the correlation is very high.

And as it stands right now, the Flames won't get anywhere near 150 pts from the D - they'll be lucky to get 100. A guy like Barrie would change that drastically.

Would have taken Yandle at $900k (and I hate Yandle)

I think the Flames try to sign him if he's available.
We desperately need a PP anchor and he has shown he's ok playing in a smaller Western Canadian market.

He just turned 30 yesterday. He shouldn't have any problem finding a team willing to give him a 4-year deal.

I wouldn't be upset if the Flames sign him -- depending on the money.

he didn't get a long term deal last season when Tanev and Brodie did. I can't see how he parlays his McDavid-inflated numbers into a contract higher than either Tanev or Brodie

$4.5AAV for 3 years max

Oilers holding firm at 3 years, on a guy just barely turned 30 … after expending assets for 2 more years of a 38 year old?

Lol. Never change.

Tre should scoop that gentleman up. I’d consider 5x 6.x

Pair him with Tanev and profit

Wouldn't mind hurting the Oilers directly by scooping him up.

Just offer him 100k more than what Edmonton lowballs him with (since they're cheap on defence).

Flames should pass on this player, if he wants a 4 year deal.

That's a none starter.

I'm not sure a PP specialist that doesn't really drive play at all, and who isn't strong defensively makes a lot of sense for a Darryl Sutter coached roster.

I don't think playing in a smaller Western Canadian market was the attraction in Edmonton. It was more to pad his stats in a contract year. Which he definitely did.

Name power has a lot of sway in Oiler land, even if you're a dried up jarry can.

I love how the Oilers are holding firm and not giving 30 year old Barrie 4 years right after trading for 2 years of 38 year old Duncan Keith. What a team.

I don’t expect him to get less. A defenseman that can put up North of 55 points is going to command a decent salary

Rasmus is getting 4.5 for whatever he can build off of his -9 and his 30 point pace

not saying he won't get it (Though I don't think he will), I am saying it's too much and we shouldn't pay it

100%
But in a day when many free agents seem to look at places like New York or Vegas, he has at least shown going to a place like Edmonton wasn't a deal breaker.
I would never suggest the words Edmonton and attraction to be used together.

How about: "The number 1 attraction in Edmonton that people look forward to is leaving"
