Regardless it was a bad decision. His contract would have covered a big portion of toffoli's salary.

Not just Tre, I think the organization as a whole would not be in favour. Bertuzzi was an outlier.

Guessing Coleman would be higher than 4th line. But I get your point.

Fit Dvorak in to center the 2nd line and I think we’d be better than last season.

The Habs likely already have a jersey with his name on it.

We aren’t paying Blake Coleman the price he will demand to play 4th line

Yeah, but the only other solution (at this point) is to move Lindholm back to the wing and go with

Monahan
Coleman/Backlund
Backlund/Coleman

down the middle, which I like even less

Aren't good fourth liners usually good toolbox not great tools? How does Virtanen, with the opposite, make for a good fourth liner?

If Coleman comes here it is likely as a winger. Not really a 2nd line center IMO either.

I think they are working on a monahan dvorak trade. Guessing Coleman if he is added would be 2nd or 3rd line RW depending on whether Tkachuk ends up staying as 1st line RW.

My goodness I hope there is a lot more coming back than just Dvorak if we send Monny, holy moly

Coleman is listed as a C but he’s pretty bad at Faceoffs and has averaged about a third of what you’d expect for a middle six center in terms of amount of faceoffs taken.

He’d be better off paired with Lindholm, Monahan, or Backlund as a winger who can play the center role on spot duty without taking many faceoffs.

If Coleman is signed, he is a checker.

Flames will still need a top 6 winger.

Don’t disagree, but checkers play up the lineup all the time. We had Ritchie on the top line (and before any comments about that being “the problem” or whatever, top teams very, very often have a checker in the top 6 wing, though usually with a center that can truly carry the line by themselves), and I think we can all agree that in the event a top 6 RW doesn’t happen, Coleman is a vast improvement.

My point was that he isn’t likely playing center and isn’t likely playing on the 4th line (in the event he signs here).

He played as winger in the top 6 in NJ and he put up some respectable numbers. He only played down the line up in Tampa, cause well Tampa.

Even if the accusation never bubbles to the surface, I have never understood why he was brought back at all. Green has no time for him.

He would be a good signing, however its more a PK, defensive player type of a role.

He would fill a spot on the 3rd line.

He is not a top 6 winger.

Hope that Dube can find his game under Sutter and be a top 6 contributor. The tools are there and he has shown he can be very effective when he utilizes his speed. He is also very good down low in the offensive zone. Obviously the defensiveness side is where much of the work is required.

Again, he could be. In the ideal world, you’ve got a stacked team like Tampa and he plays on your third line. For most other teams, it would not surprise me to see him on the second line.

He averaged 3rd in ATOI for forwards at even strength in NJ and had a positive corsi while doing it. He was JUST outside the top 6 at EV in Tampa, and he’s a 1st line PK guy.

You’re probably undervaluing the player.

I think it is a good bet that this is the reason Sutter was so hard on him last year. I am guessing that he sees a boatload of potential in Dube.
