Looch is the most captain-y, but a leadership role didn't seem to fit him too well in Edmonton. I'd offer it to him if he 'emerges' and wants to take the role on but I like the idea of Tanev.

My only issue here and I dont know if I am making it bigger then it is. The whole puck flip situation seemed to really rattle him (it seemed by his play from that point on). Not sure he is ready to handle a room yet.

At this point I personally go with no captain.

Chris Tanev is to new to be the Captain in my opinion. Plus he's a former Canuck!
I still haven't come around fully to the Markstrom and Tanev signings! I get they're on our team now but still.

I would have stuck with Rittich and put Kylington into the lineup. Neither Markstrom or Tanev put the Flames over and now we have them both on long contracts although Tanev's isn't to bad.

I still think Brodie is/was better than Tanev.

I went with Backlund. He gets bonus points for being a lifer so far.

How can Brodie be better than Tanev when they're not even remotely the same type of defencemen?

"None of the above" for me:
Of the most likely choices..Chucky is too immature yet, it appears. Johnny is a terrific player, but has never put the team on his back - similarly for Monny and Backs, with rare exceptions.

The others generally are too young or have been with the team too short a time. Looch...well, maybe, but until he punches the crap out of a couple of Oilers, that's a big NO for me. THAT, had he done it in games up until now, might have made me reconsider.

To me Brodie is a more skilled/finesse player and that's how I think the Flames should go as far as building a team. Yes Tanev is a big body and a pretty good skater but I like Brodie better.

Voted Monahan because I feel since he was drafted here he's been groomed for this moment. Has been attached to Gios hip ever since. Needs to step up his community game but that'll come.

Tkachuk on a 6+ year contract extension would be my first choice

Lucic. He's not going anywhere and he cares.

Flames will name Monahan captain as part of the plan to challenge Sean Monahan to push him to the next level.

Under Sutter he will become one of the best 2 way centers in the game.

Riiggghhhtttt?

I don't really think this is something fans can answer, there's a lot more behind the scenes that makes or doesn't make a captain. We don't know who is vocal or who is looked up to as a leader in the room.

Then there's the community aspect, as the Flames organization puts an emphasis on social outreach and charity work. The captain has to accept there's a lot to the role away from the rink too.

My gut says Backlund or Lucic but this roster could look entirely different from the poll options in as little as a week...

I'd love to see Landeskog in a Flames uniform if he hits the free agency market. Otherwise, if Tre can do his magic and get Eichel. If none of those players are here by the start of the season, Looch is the man to kick some arses.

Don't think they need one this year.

Figure it out next summer. Monahan has gotta rebound a bit to be considered.

I have no idea what the dynamic in the room is, but I'm going to say Lindholm.

He brings the best combo of O and D and plays hard all the time.

I'm not one of those that wants to see the captain be a depth guy either. I think he should be one of the stars on the team.
