Bernier is a UFA so is this basically just a third rounder for Ned? That seems really cheap, especially, even if he's up for a pay raise.

It was a complete and utter bust. McDonald wasn't even good enough for the AHL.

I wonder if scouts get fired (or demoted) when stuff like that happens. I mean, somebody obviously pushed for him as he was the first goalie off the board that year.

The Canes have shown in recent years that they regard goalies as pretty much interchangeable. They’re unwilling to shell out serious money or term to keep one around when they feel they can go out and grab a guy like Bernier to do the job.

This seems like a great deal for Detroit. One of the best young goalies, reasonable extension

I think that’s a good gamble by DET. After they signed him to the 2 year contract his value went up. Unless something goes wrong, it would be a great value contract for 2 years, with the potential of becoming a 1 goalie. It seems like a no brainer really.

CAR seems to believe that his play was a product of a great team defense. I believe they expect the league to figure him out… otherwise I can’t explain the trade from their perspective.
