That's the thing, lots of teams would... If Seattle didn't want him they could have taken him and flipped him for more than Geekie. Hence the assumption of some sort of deal happening.

If this is true, and depending if there was no side deal, this would mean that Carolina only lost Connor Brickey (UFA - went unsigned, most recently played in Austria), Geekie, and a 5th round pick over 2 recent expansion drafts.
Hard to believe that such a good team could have such little to offer.

So Carolina basically lost nothing of consequence from both expansion drafts and is one of the top teams in the east. Crazy.

I’ve been pretty high on Geekie for a while, and wanted the Flames to get him out of Carolina where he’d have more space to move up the RW depth chart. I like this pick, I think he’ll be a solid middle 6 RW’r.

I have a hard time believing Francis is doing anyone favours. For whatever reason, Francis likes the player more. I'll reserve judgment given the fact he knows both of them and should be well-informed to make this pick.
