Wherever he ends up, I just hope that he's the first guy the captain of that team passes the cup to.
And then someday he comes back and signs a one day retirement deal with the Flames.

This was maybe the easiest pick the Kraken had to make. AHL caliber players or a team captain a few years removed from winning a Norris Trophy that can still play and only has one year left on his current contract. I'm not sad at all as this is a great pick for both organizations as the Flames badly needs changes to the core and the Kraken are getting a great guy to lead the team in their inaugural season. Gio will play in a beautiful city and get more of the recognition he deserves.

I strongly believe that Gio's number should go to the rafters and not as a lame "Forever a Flame" thing. Give the man his full due.
But this isn't a bad outcome. A bad outcome would have been giving into Seattle's demands.
My hopes in orders were
1. Gio stays with a small price paid to Seattle (e.g. a third) - but this became very unlikely clearly
2. Gio goes and the cap room is created
3. Worst outcome: The Flames give up a big price to keep him.
So this is probably the best of the realistic scenarios.

Inevitable.
Will be interesting to see who they select (non-UFA selection) that's legitimately better than Gio. Probably not a lot of candidates. Kind of a kick in the teeth when you give the expansion team their best player and probable captain.
