…after years of debating with you that a certain someone’s lack of production was due to linemates and opportunity, you turn around and use that argument to say it did in fact impact Hyman?

People keep talking like Hyman has spent most of his career on Matthews line, which is just not the case.
He has been mostly a 2nd and 3rd line guy, just like Goodrow. He is just better.

Wow, all those debates and it never sunk in on you that the point was low skilled players don't make other players better, but are just effective point sucks in the right situation? You really never got that? You never understood that Bennett was not a skilled player and the only way he was going to score a lot was sucking off the teet of a true star? Even when I contrasted the situation directly to Kassian and McDavid? You honestly never understood that?
That's the point here too. Hyman is not a overly skilled player. Unless he is playing with superstars he is not likely to score on his own. Take him away from Matthews and what do you have? Probably a 10-15 goal and 20-25 point player. Does that sound a little familiar? I think Hyman is a little better than Bennett, but he doesn't have the talent to drive a car let alone a line. $5-6M for his services would be an epic mistake.

Also, there is a reason why players get to play on top lines (for more than a cup of coffee) - they have earned it.

He was the guy on the Lightning who I felt legitimately got overrated. Coleman, Gourde, etc are actually good players, Goodrow is just a bottom 6 forward that you find on any team

winning two Cups and now going to New York on a completely ridiculous long-term contract ... good for Goodrow.

That is true. He didn't rely completely on Auston Matthews. He also got to play with John Tavares as his fall back position.

He's a UFA, so Seattle is unlikely to take him unless he agrees to a new contract with them. Leaking this today lets Seattle know what they have to beat in order to get him to sign (assuming he would even sign with them).
In a sense, it's a poison pill, but it's not a lethal poison.

I’m actually relieved to see that the NHL team with the deepest pockets and most desirable zip code is owned by a nutbar. Think of how much it would suck if the Rangers had shrewd and prudent ownership.

I thought this was super reasonable but then I realized that I had Goodrow and Coleman mixed up in my head.
Little bit odd.

I thought there was a transaction freeze in the NHL now until the expansion draft?

Yes, the Rangers can't sign him to this until the trade freeze is done.
If Seattle took him, obviously the rangers couldn't sign this deal.
\Is he UFA? Then the rangers could sign him to this deal on free agency opening day.

Long term contracts for players like this just don’t make any sense. There’s just no need to lock your team up like that. This has to be one of the lowest AAV’s on a contract with this term in the NHL which should tell you something.
