I meant in general he’s aiming to get his 1st round pick to be at that 1st/2nd overall slot in ‘22 and ‘23, so he can take on some bad players/bad contracts and gain some extra picks while being a bad team.

The Red Wings cap situation is ridiculous. In the best of ways. Yzerman has gotten rid of all the Kenny Holland stink off his roster, and only has ~10 million committed beyond this season. Talk about a fantasy situation.

Ron Francis should be watching paying attention. It’s crazy how much you can get for gms if you take on bad contracts and retain salary.

Lucic 50 percent retained probably gets you a pick next year and probably could land you a bunch from the Flames now. He could do this with every team in the league if he wanted too

Provided your team is already so bad that you have no choice but to do a full rebuild. The Athletic reports that Francis's orders are to spend to the cap if necessary and build a contender right away.
