I think everyone expected this deal to be done. As for $900k, I don't think it makes any difference from a cap stand point. I liked Ritchie's effort, checking, and toughness.
I would like him to improve in the defensive zone. Especially at getting the puck out of the zone, and not icing the puck as much. I also would like him to be more aware of who his man is when the Flames are collapsing in front of their own net. That said, for $900k and likely 4th line minutes he is a good add.

I liked what Ritchie brought. I'm happy with him as a 12th/13th forward

As a 12th/13th is fine. It's just we know how Darryl likes to deploy a forward like him.

This is my main reservation as well.
It seems like Darryl likes Ritchie a little too much.

Reminds me of the movie "Moneyball" when Phillip Seymore Hoffman would just keep playing who he wanted at first base until Pitt had to trade him away.

Yeah we should have re-signed Nordstrom or Simon instead
Knocking Khaira into the nether-realm completely justifies this contract. 20 point pace, physicality and an expansion draft requirement for 900k is fine by me.

Or Ryan or Leivo.
The Flames already have guys who can fight. Ritchie is one of the least effective players in the league and Sutter isn't going to be able to resist playing him. It's going to be another Matt Bartkowski situation.

Good...knows his role and does it well. This club needs size, he helps in that department.

Not Simon, but both Leivo and Ryan are pretty good.

Ryan at 900k would kind of suggest that he was waaaay overpaid last season

He adds some toughness and plays a position the team is really shallow in. I also loved his work in Silicon Valley.

You wouldn't get Ryan at 900k. More like 1.5m.

You’re not getting Ryan on a 1 year $900k deal so that shouldn’t be considered a comparable.
Leivo and “pretty good” don’t go anywhere near each other in my world.

Ritchie is terrible if you see a lot of Ritchie with a lot of responsibility. I'm sure Sutter will use him properly.

Tkachuk, Lucic and maybe Tanev and perhaps Stone if he is signed? Maybe Dube and Mangiapane would take a beating for the team.
Hard for Sutter to start an instigator line-up like Hartley did against Vancouver.
I can see why the Flames were telling Tkachuk not to start anything.
