I'd love to see you take a job from which you could be fired for things that random bozos on the Internet think you might do wrong in the future.

Sure I guess, but do you really see Seattle agreeing to that? Everything we've seen or heard so far is that any deals to not take a certain player are going to be expensive

Well as a lottery team with a shallow prospect pool, it only makes sense to trade a couple future assets to keep our 37 year old captain for next year.

I think it's fair to say that Treliving has a lot to do to earn the trust of Flames fans.

After seven years, we shouldn't be saying that.

Maybe Seattle will take a 7th round pick to avoid taking an asset that they could trade at the deadline for a 1st round pick. That would be even better asset management.

Biggest fear is Treliving trying to outduel Holland on the price to pay for an 37 year old defenceman.

This isn't a question of trust. It's a question of certain posters who keep making up stupid things that a GM might do, and then blaming Treliving for being stupid enough to do them – even though they never actually happen.

I don’t think they are actually trying to keep Gio. I think they are saying they are trying everything to pay respect to the captain in the media.

Absolutely you explore every reasonably possible way to keep Gio and make it public that you are so doing.

But if a prudent solution is not available unfortunately you let him go.

More terrible asset management from the Flames. Can’t say this comes as a surprise.

Team is looking at all options and scenarios to ice the best team possible for next year.
Good. Isn’t that what they should do?

I still think Gio gets exposed

Gio has value. That much is obvious. The question is... What is it? I'd pay to keep him because he's a good player and this team needs more good players, not less. I'm not sure I'd pay the Vegas price though.

The Oilers 3rd, B prospect, +whoever they pick instead of Gio. Could be swayed to give up the Panthers '22 2nd rounder.

They are two different negotiations. Seattle is just doing a bunch of minor deals and getting what they can. The cap hit is completely different as well. Plus they get a player like Kylington anyway.

It's a much tougher spot to be in than people are making it out to be.

Gio is 38 but he is still the best defender on this team. Him leaving for absolutely nothing leaves a big hole on the left side of our defense that no single player is going to cover. Added to that is management is likely wanted to compete now an losing Gio doesn't help with that goal.

At the same time, he's 38. He's in the twilight of his career with only 1 more year left on his deal. This team has wasted too many future assets over the years and it just isn't in a position to give up anything of significance to keep a player of that age.

Gio is the teams best defender and will go down as one of the best defenders to ever wear the Flaming C. I think you gotta rip that bandaid off though. Make a decision between Tanev and Gio, stick with losing one, use the ice time as opportunity for younger guys, and use the extra cap space to help reshape the team. Anything else seems like a waste of assets.

And there we go. Two more posters who blame Treliving for something that hasn't even happened.

You know what? It's entirely possible that Treliving will trade every player on the roster for a bag of Mexican jumping beans. Let's cut to the chase and blame him for that, shall we? We have no team at all, just a sack full of legumes infested with insect larvae! What a bozo Treliving is! Fire him now, before he inevitably does every stupid thing we can imagine!
