Any sports league cannot afford to deal with if this thing were to happen again, so how do they ensure it doesn't. For MLB, one incident would be all it would take to hurt their gate revenue for years to come. This is such a huge story that will probably not get a headline.

Looking at where this hotel is located, it doesn't appear there would have been any direct line-of-sight into the stadium itself and there aren't any public plazas in the area. If they were planning on shooting a bunch of people, it's not likely it would have been another "Vegas-style" shooting because there wouldn't have been the same large cluster of people there were at the concert.
The only thing that would have changed that is if there are plans to close off the surrounding streets for a street party type atmosphere for the ASG. If that were happening, it could have been worse than Vegas because people wouldn't have had room to disperse once the shooting started like they did in Vegas.
As it happens, the stadium in Atlanta, where the ASG was originally scheduled to be held, does have a hotel with balconies overlooking the stadium. I wouldn't be surprised if they have spotters who watch the hotel during games just in case -- and to make sure people aren't having sex on their balcony in full view of the stadium.

Reasonable to think the worst here. Let conspiracy theories fly, because trust is at an alltime low.

Yeah, that's the part of this that makes the "gun sale" story seem odd. It's not exactly a cheap "no-tell" motel. It looks like a pretty nice hotel, where the cheapest rooms later this summer are over $300 a night. I'm guessing an 8th floor room with a balcony on All-Star weekend was quite a bit more than that.
Although, given they were all charged with intent to distribute, they may have been there to be near the action of the ASG when distributing... "If you're looking to party, we've got a penthouse suite in that hotel over there and we have all the party favors you need."
