It would be foolish for the Lightning to retain salary. If they’re getting rid of him, they’re retaining zippo and pay more to do so.

Guys that have been rumoured to be out there:
Garland - stalemate on RFA contract with Arizona
Eberle - NYI need to clear cap space
Rakell - UFA after next season
Kase - hasn't really fit in with Boston
Garland would honestly be my target if we are looking for somebody, and preferably I'd try to get Christian Fischer with him too. Still think there is more of a player there than what's been shown so far.

TB has to shed salary in a big way. And paying $2M is better than $5M.
PS: They couldn’t offload him for free this year.

I think you see Seattle take on a bunch of cap from Tampa Bay.
Honestly I could see Seattle ending up with Johnson, Gourde, Cal Foote via an expanson draft deal.
If Tampa goes 7-3-1 protection that leaves McDonagh, Rutta, Foote, and Johnson as the most likely signed players available to Seattle. I think that Tampa will give Seattle Gourde & Foote to take Johnson and not take McDonagh. And then they try to re-sign Coleman or Goodrow.

First Line Centre
|
Sign Stastny, resign Ritchie and doc . Lindholm back to rw, dube to center.
TK- Stasny- Lindholm/ eatbread
Gaudreau - mony- Lindholm/Ritchie
Eatbread/dube- Backlund- Doc /Ritchie
(Anyone) -dube/doc- (anyone)
Hopefully I have conveyed in an understandable way how adding a top 6 center would benefit the whole forward core especially at rw with lindholm moving over. I didn't bother filling the fourth line but showed the options for the top 9 and 5 options for center not including lindholm who I see as a top rw.
While rw depth on this team has always been a bit of a problem I wouldn't get carried away with the impact it has on the ice. Our very lackluster defence is way more concerning imo . Who was even our best defenceman last year? Most of our hopes rely on a Giordano resurrection or Darryl Sutter voodoo team defence.

Monahan slots after Larkin, which is an area of concern for the Wings. Kylington gets his shot and has middle pair/power play written all over him.
Potential win/win.

Oh boy. I don’t want the Flames’ guy calling Yzerman.
Yzerman built the Lightning. Seems pretty competent. No way the Flames guy gets the better of him

Hasn’t scored more than 50pts in 7 years. Turns 36 next year so he doesn’t push Lindholm to the wing or plays ahead of Monahan or Backlund either

Hence why they’d have to pay to offload him?

Kind of depressing this thread could have been started every off season since Iggy was traded. Hopefully this is the year we find a keeper!

We have Markstrom at keeper. We need a RW.

I don't hate the idea on buying low on Ondrej Kase. Good player when he's healthy

Doubt he could be acquired but Val Nichushkin is definitely a RW I'd like the Flames to snag.
Outside of that, not sure what they can get. Trades or signings. Pretty ugly FA market.

Another option maybe Nolan Patrick? Great pedigree but obviously not the results so far and again injury concerns. Probably cheap acquisition cost?

They don’t have to pay - they just have to make the deal worthwhile.
