All the individual awards this year should have an asterisk beside them, IMO, due to only playing teams within your division. Not that there won't be endless debate about it but I think it really is difficult to compare players this year based on their stats.

Yup. Absolutely beyond impossible.

Hot take: starting 502 games in a row is something a bad teammate does.

He had no coach to tell him he wasn’t starting?

At that time it was a 70 game season....he started every game in 7+ of them....in a row.

Just ridiculous.

On a personal note, he is one of the kindest and most gentle men i have ever met. Also one of the best to ever put pads on.

Think about this. He won the Conn Smythe....but his team was swept in 4 straight in the finals.

Glenn Hall didn't just start all those games, he finished them too.

I mean, no one is going to win 11 Stanley Cups as a player ever again either. There are a bunch that are just relics of a former era that will never be repeated.

That’s a lot of throwing up for Hall.

2. Brodeur’s 691 career wins. Roy is second with 551. Fleury at 492 is third.

Fleury would need to win 200 more games to set that record. He’s 37, and his career high 42 wins came a decade ago. Doubt he manages to average 40 wins until he’s 42 years old. He could get Patrick, but no chance he reaches Marty.

The person who’s going to threaten this record for sure hasn’t played in the league yet, and odds are, they haven’t even been born.

I'd love to see Fleury over take Roy in the second position.

The voters for this award are NHL GMs, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do this.

Fleury deserves one.

All this expansion talk has me wondering, remind me again why did Pittsburgh expose Fleury in the expansion draft?

I seem to recall he was regarded at the time as the best player Vegas picked up but also for whatever reason it felt like his career was also on the decline then. As it turns out, nope!

The problem at the time was Matt Murray looked to be the Pens future #1 for the next decade.

It was keep one or the other for the Pens. They decided to go with the younger player.

Matt Murray was 23 and had just posted back-to-back elite playoff performances (not to take away from MAF's 2017 playoff) whereas MAF was 32-going-on-33 and the Penguins' 1B at that point.

I think everyone and their mother, in Summer 2017, expected Murray to post a decade+ of elite starter seasons while MAF would probably decline in a few years.

Funny how it turned out the other way.

I am imagining Glenn Hall's back up after the first year. Sitting in the locker room in his sweat pants, eating a piece of pizza, smoking a cigarette.

Edit: Just looked on hockeydb, they don't even list the other goalie.

NHL teams didn't have to carry and dress a backup goalie until 1965. As such Glenn Hall didn't have a backup early in his career; none of them did.

Because at the time Murray looked to be the consensus #1 that dethroned Fleury. Being younger also helped make the decision easy. Wasn’t the Penguins’ fault that Murray struggled after the ED.

Happy to see Fleury win one. With Lehner coming in, and all those trade speculations, it definitely lit a fire.

He was probably already a HOFer. This win cements it.

Watched him in junior training camp as a 16 year old. I remember the day he was drafted into the Q. I was pumped we drafted a goaltender with the last pick of the first around.

Had no idea the player we got.

World Junior MVP
First overall NHL draft pick
Couple of Stanley Cups
Lead an expansion team to the finals

... and of course now, the Vezina

He may have never played for the Flames, but he is my favorite player.

I'm pumped with this win. Pumped.
