The Oilers need veteran NHL talent far more than they need another 18 year old.

The Flyers did that back when they were rebuilding as well. It was widely suspected at the time that this was Buffalo’s and Hall’s plan all along. None of contenders could afford the contract for a full season, so Buffalo was basically a placeholder until the deadline.

Why? Hall is so overrated. He'll only turn out to be a bust, just like Brouwer and Neal. I don't care if he's a native Calgarian, but he's not a solution for the Flames immediately and long term wise.

I don’t see how Edmonton can afford him without major salary going back the other way. Not sure they make sense to me. Unless they ba e a bunch of LTIR space or something.

IDK about this...it worked out that way, they certainly didn't expect to suck they were hoping to have a good year and extend him.
good for them though, makes you wonder WTF Hall was thinking taking a one year with them when he had a one year from Colorado on the table and apparently some other long term deals

It’s believed 3 teams remain in the mix for Hall.

Florida would be one destination that makes sense and has all the cap room needed to add.

Brett Ritchie has the same amount of goals but we have to act now for it to make sense

Why would it be annoying?
It would be hilarious if they did that and the media actually tried to pump it up.
It will be a waste of assets for any team except an already contending team. He's one dimensional, brings losing hockey with him wherever he goes and is poor value on his contract.

It would be annoying for a week until they actually play a game...Oilers just happen to have a large break after the trade deadline.

Let's assume Buffalo is eating 50 percent of the salary. Which contenders have a need at wing and can take 4 mill in cap, say with sending out a dead weight contract worth 1-3 million. Leafs can, Canes? Panthers still can too... anyone else?

Hall has a lot of control on where he goes (NMC). After the year he had, he probably is more focused on where he can go to pad his numbers a little for contract negotiations more than he is worried about winning the Cup this year. So Edmonton makes sense on that level, but where would they find the space? I wouldn’t put it past the NHL to ignore cap circumvention for the Oilers if it was veiled enough.

Bruins and Avs could probably make it work.

Wow, Hall's value has decreased significantly. I would rather have him over Foligno.

I'm starting to wonder if this isn't more of a hockey trade.
