11- The use of “jihad”, but then they’ll jump all over any other use of Cultural appropriation, sexism, discrimination or any other social justice issue.
Another one: "I like this depth signing/trade. More depth never hurts."
The team then proceeds to either bench or bury the best prospect and ruin their development. At the same time, there are no contributions whatsoever from any of the zero-potential depth players.
Another one: "I'm fine with trading a second round pick for (insert subpar player). Second round picks rarely even make the NHL anyways."
Over 2/3 of second round picks end up playing in the NHL.
Another one: "It's too early to evaluate this trade/signing/draft pick. We will have to wait and see."
Then why bother analyzing and critiquing anything about hockey at all?
Goalie lets in 5 goals on 12 shots but 4 he didn't have a chance on.
I don’t think we’ve seen that this year.
What we have seen is our goalie let in 3 goals on 25 shots with 2 of them being goals he didn’t have a chance on and a bunch of people jumping on their case, meanwhile our #1C has 2 even strength goals all season and the team has only scored 1 or 2 goals all game.
I think your post applies more to the Mike Smith/Jonas Hiller eras.
10 Things People Say Here That I'll Never Understand
Something that has always irked me is the notion of working harder. Fans always say things like, “just work harder” or “ play like you did last period” or “play a full 60 minutes” and other junk like that.
It’s like, the other team gets paid to play too you know? I mean, doesn’t the other team and their fanbases expect full 60 minute efforts and hard work?
For me personally, based on what I’ve noticed, this game is more about momentum swings and how you deal with momentum and against momentum. Can you score enough goals and make enough happen during the times that you’re good vs can you defend well enough and not allow many goals during the times when you don’t have momentum. I think in a perfectly even game, I would expect a 60 minute tug of war where you spend a combined total of 30 minutes pulling the rope and trying to topple your opponent and another combined 30 minutes trying not to be toppled by your opponents.
But with that said, anyone expecting their favorite team to just put on the work boots and dominate their opponent isn’t being realistic and similarly, I think any GM that expects their team to come out and just always work hard and carry the play for more than half the game in order to win probably didn’t build a good enough team.

“He should have shot instead of passing” when we see an angle from the stands, not what the guy is looking at.
“He has to bury that” when 95% of shots get saved or miss via deflection or just missing.
“X is garbage” instantly after the guy doesn’t score, or maybe makes a mistake - I honestly think some people hang over the keyboard waiting for pet whipping boy to make a mistake. Whatever the player is, probably not a “garbage” player.
“Why is the 4th line playing”. After a PP, after a PK, after a goal against, after a goal for, near the beginning of a game or period, near the end of a game or period, after a good shift from a different line, after a bad shift from a different line... Then you look at the game sheet and they played 7 minutes total.

That one also always gets me too, especially when there is obvious traffic between the player and the net. It might look easy on TV, but it's pretty safe to assume if a player doesn't shoot, then there is no lane to shoot through.
Having said that, if the opposition is blocking every lane all the time, sometimes I think you should just shoot and make them either block it or get out of the way. Even the best shot blockers will get tired of it. I think it was Al Iafrate that said that the best way to ensure clear shooting lanes was to show them what 100 mph slap shot felt like to block.
Of course, he was pretty reliable to get the puck on net. Some players are probably just as likely to hit their own team mates.

Then if he shoots and the goalie obviously had the angle well covered, he’s accused of aiming for the crest. My main point is we don’t see it from the actual angle, so what we all think is there might not be.
