I don't know about the rest of you, but I've seen my cats eat many house spiders and other critters. Sometimes crickets used to escape from my reptiles' cages, and the cats would just chase then eat them.
They don't just help with mice. They kill pretty much everything.
Pretty much every house has mites, but I don't think spiders are able to see them. Quite a few ants get inside, since the ants in Calgary are pretty small.
The number of critters might decrease if you have a dehumidifier.
Not all of us are privileged enough to live at the footsteps of the Rockies in Calgary. I live in Toronto.
I am sorry to hear that.
Also, surprised about so many cockroach sightings in this City and from googling it tells me. Never seen one before here but apparently we do have a lot of them.
I remember growing up and reading the Hardy Boys and being confused about what a cockroach was in how they spoke about it in common place and I had zero idea it was an insect. Always thought they could survive a nuclear war but not a Calgary winter, guess that was a little wrong.

My old house in haysboro would occassionally get hobo spiders. These guys are absolutely gigantic and look very similar to a brown recluse, except bigger. Very unsettling to see in your house. Their body was about the size of a quarter with the legs extending much further.

There is a high probability I would scream like a girl and faint.

Spider's have never really been my freakout bug. I hate their webs though, but I always feel bad when I swipe one out. But if I find a spider in my house, I'll either leave it alone, or very gently take it outside while humming the theme to Born Free.
Other bugs though, freak me out.
I still remember when I moved to Dallas and met my landlord, it was a nice looking apartment. But she gave the dire warnings.
Don't push your bed against the wall, its a sure way to wake up with cockroaches falling on you.
At night turn on the lights before you get out of bed, I did one night and it was like watching a carpet recede. Also if you put your head to the wall, at times it sounded like a ocean with the bugs moving inside of the wall.
I still remember seeing a hissing cockroaches for the first time, It freaked me the hell out.

We had hobo spiders when we lived in Haysboro too. The area is infested with them (something to do with the water table and lots of wood piles in the area). And yes, they’re terrifying. Standing at the top of the stairs I would sometimes spot one scuttling across the basement floor and grab my hockey stick to deal with it.
The best was when we got traps, and you’d find two or three stuck to one. We had a trap in the basement bathroom - guests would shriek when they discovered its contents.

Years ago I was sharing a townhouse in the NW, and one night in bed discovered a spider in the upper corner of my room.
Since it wasn’t huge and wasn’t bugging me I decided to leave it be. The next night as I went to bed there it was in the same place. I made a silent agreement with the spider, if it stayed in its area at night, I would stay in mine. And we cohabitated peacefully for at least a week.
Finally one night before sleep I looked up and it was not in its corner. So of course I examined the bed, and found it there with me.
That was the end of my roommate the spider.

good reminder for me to address the ant colonies in our back yard that live under the swingset mats. actually it's pretty cool to quickly whip up the mat in the middle of summer and see all the larvae and their tending ants before the bigger guard ants swarm in and quickly move the young ones underground.
