As of right now that makes him tied for the 13th highest paid goalie and most of the others are all UFA years. Not saying he'll bust but he played a whopping 62 games, big gamble.
The only RFA's who signed for more that I can see are:
Connor Hellebuyck who had played 149 games and is one of the best in the league.
Matt Murray who had played over 200 games and won the cup in net. He's also been a disaster of a signing.
John Gibson who had played over 200 games and is one of the best.
Vasilevskiy who had also played over 200 games, has won a cup and is probably the best in the league.
That's pretty elite company.

Seriously?
Penner
Vanek
Giving all of the wunderkids matching 6M contracts coming out of their ELC's
Even overpaying Draisaitl (at the time) by 1.5-2M. That contract has worked out great but at the time the comparables were MacKinnon, Barkov, Gaudreau, etc. in the 6M range

They will probably offer Seattle a 2nd to take Holtby.

I don't think this is a bad contract per se, although it's risky given he's had about a season of mediocre backup play and 30ish games of good play. But it's a goalie contract and I'm a bit surprised it didn't come in lower given that the first two years are RFA. Those years are worth maybe 3M, so what you're basically saying is those UFA years cost 6.3M each... i.e. more than Markstrom. That's not exactly a bargain.

1) I don't think Seattle will say no.
2) Holtby is only signed through 2022.

I doubt Seattle will be doing anyone any favors...Holtby is so bad a 6th place team can't play him why would they want to start their franchise with that? Maybe for a first. And then the Canucks need to sign someone anyway. The need a decent backup.

12.3m, assuming seattle doesnt take Holtby, which probly takes a 2nd
But then year after it's likely only around 6, since dipietro is probably the backup

There will be so many good goalie options I highly doubt they take Holtby and bail out a division rival just to get a 2nd rounder

A 2nd is what was needed to move MAF to Vegas, and he had a higher cap hit.

The same DiPietro who battled it out with journeyman Zane McIntyre to be the starting goalie for the Utica Comets? The same DiPietro who managed no better than a 0.917 SP in his entire four-year junior hockey career?

Massive difference...MAF is actually a good goalie that Vegas wanted
signing Holtby to that deal was another Benning special the guy is done

He was a $5M backup in Pittsburgh. Not much different than Holtby now. Career numbers are quite similar.
Also, who do you think is going to be available off the Canucks roster? Jake Virtanen?
If a second is on the table you take it all day, every day.

He was the defacto starter and the team played significantly better with him in net.
Unless you mean this season when he's not even with Utica....

I don't even think Virtanen makes it to the expansion draft.
I think he gets dealt at the TD.

lol you can't be serious
MAF last 3 years in Pittsburg
.920
.921
.909
Not to mention playing and winning playoff games on the way to the cup. Holtby is barely an NHL goaltender right now. Seattle can only take so many goalies they aren't just going to waste one for a second rounder. This is wishful thinking for Canuck fans IMO.
