Another thing. For a league that wants to embrace gambling, managing scores is not a good look.

I mean I like that they manage games. I do quite well betting on regulation ties.

It's Tim "I'm the worst ref in the NHL" Peel. Would you expect anything less?

The NHL sold parity when they implemented the salary cap. If they can't attain parity, they must fabricate it!

This has been going on long before the salary cap was implemented. It's clear is a systemic issue from the NHL department of officiating down. Officials have been instructed to call the game this way for a long time.

I hope this leads to more transparency by Refs.

Here's a link to the actual call.

hates the team or a player on the team for some reason or another.

I bet if players could speak anonymously many of them have a ref who just dislikes them

we all know he's only getting in trouble because it was caught on mic.

If they don’t hold him accountable and answer to this (as much as we ALL knew this was going on) you would think there could be significant ramifications around betting etc.

I hope this leads to accountability but sadly doubt it. Colin will come out with a bogus statement saying it was taken out of context and sweep it underneath the rug.

This. When the league is instructing it's officials to manage games they are not going to do anything about this except to tell Peel to be careful what he says when working.

Doesnt this put them in a bad position for sports betting if the games are being managed by one or two people.

It's really dumb. Play even strength, work hard to take the lead, get penalized for it

A referee's job is impartial enforcement of rules to fairness of all competitors.

Managing the games is stupid and it's silly that we just eat this #### sandwich and accept it.

He should be fired and the referees in the NHL should do a deep review of their training and processes.

The NHL has been a joke league for a long time. Time to clean it up.

And for those who the tweet won't render:

Dan Rosen
@drosennhl

Colin Campbell, NHL senior executive VP of hockey operations, announces referee Tim Peel will no longer be working NHL games now or in the future after his comments during the game last night between DET and NSH.

Feel bad in a way for Peel because a lot of refs do it, he just got caught. The league had no choice but to fire him though.

I’ve been saying for years they need to go scorched earth with the current set of Refs and re-train a whole new crop who aren’t susceptible to this BS.

Makes you wonder if the refs are directed by the NHL to do this, formally or informally, or if its part of the culture of reffing in the NHL.

The first one opens the NHL to a lawsuit for firing him, unless there is of course a side NDA/pay off agreement we don't learn about.
