It is clearly more than just a paper transaction. James Neal has already been scratched multiple times this season, and he only played last game because PullmyRV had the COVID.

Maybe. Or maybe they only just figured out they could do paper transactions to save cap.

Yeah Neal isn't going anywhere, no one is claiming him or trading for him.

Oilers are just trying to save cap space.

Love to see him pout though. He might just sit home and get fat and force them to buy him out in the off-season. Neal is not the type to get motivated to prove people wrong.

I don't think this is a taxi squad shuffle for cap space because the Oilers are already capped using LTIR space. In that situation, I don't think there is daily cap saving to be made. He just isn't worth having on the roster.

This must have caught him off guard, not giving him time to pre quit on the team and clean out his locker mid-season.

Their taxi squad has been full until recently. But now with Kassian on LTIR, Frankenjarvi in Covid protocol, Bear and Haas on IR they finally have room to send Neal to the taxi.

My guess its Taxi Squad, Oilers will bring Neal up and down steady just like the Flames with Derek Ryan

I’m guessing they didn’t want to hurt Neal’s ego and have a pouting player with a massive cap hit and term on their team

The smart thing to do is buyout this summer and just bite the bullet with dead cap for the next four years

I knew they lost it the day it was made. Neal is bad news.

I would laugh my head off if they sent him to Bakersfield. Fun fact - Bakerfield is not playing in the Canadian AHL division. They are still where they were.

I don't care that it's a cap saving tactic. I love seeing "James Neal on waivers"
