In response to some of the questions related to the type of art, I’m looking at originals for David thauberger. I would say it’s both due to me liking the artist as well as the investment side. His stuff isn’t cheap but it also moves if it needs to. I would like to look at owning original art pieces as opposed to heading to ikea for some generic pieces
I’ve seen his stuff in a lot of galleries. Masters runs quite a bit. Plus I’ve looked in galleries in Canada and in US.
I just started looking at auction sites but unsure which ones are more legit or likely to service his work
An honestly if some art snobs want to tear him apart or suggest other artists with similar styles etc. I’m all years.

I've bid on a couple of David's pieces after seeing one on display at the Glenbow (never won any of them). I don't think you need to worry, he's well regarded.
Most importantly, one of the nice things about art is that you get to collect things that appeal to you... you don't need to worry about what other's think.

So in a unfortunate way it could be better to wait and get a better deal?
In all seriousness that’s really good advice. I wouldn’t have thought about it that way

On a bit more of a entry level, I've been buying at the ACAD (or whatever it is called now) grad show for a few years. I like art glass and managed to buy a few pieces from the Bee Kingdom guys before they took off. I've also picked up some photography prints. I'm not into collecting for speculation, I just like having interesting stuff on the walls.

Same, i have a few things from the ACAD shows. I look at that as supporting local and students. But they have some great stuff.
If anyone hasn't been to the ACAD show, its worth a look!

The Olive guy? I had no idea his work was anything more than shopping mall gallery art

His work was fairly huge and popular for a while. I never liked it but people flooded in for a while on it. And when he did his tours of the various galleries, they were packed. The only work that I liked of his was a customized motorcycle that he painted up, I offered to buy it but he wanted a wack of money for it. . But yeah I hated the Olive thing, and thought that his work would fade pretty quickly because it was kinda goofy.

I didn't see the post at the time and it was removed later but I believe Cecil ran him off the site by accusing him of making up stories about his past and providing contradictory posts to prove it.
I personally couldn't care if he was lying or not; he brought some colour to the board. Hopefully he shows up again sometime.

I thought that was his whole schtick, posting obviously over-exaggerated or made-up stories that made you think OMG!WTF! after reading them.

I always took his stories with a truckload of salt but there were often entertaining.

I didn’t accuse him of anything. I made a joke about his penchant for telling far out stories and posted some of them.
Nothing like making things up to make me look bad. I guess you’re ok with lying and being a hypocrite. Jeez, almost like something a ######bag would do in an attempt to run someone off the site.

OMG!WTF! Dm'ed me with some great advice and links to several interesting galleries and auction sites. I thanked him on there.
The above might be why he didn't post here, but in any event he did give me some really good advice

In the event that people are actually interested in Art on this sub, this thread could be changed into an all-encompassing art thread.
If people want to post their favourite artists, auctions, good deals, or general information, that would be very cool!

I'm trying to see the difference between calling someone a liar with posts to prove it and "joking" that someone tells lies with posts to prove it. Not saying it was right or wrong to do so but they sound pretty much the same to me.
Other than the telling a joke part sounds like that guy at work that says how he feels in joke form cause it's the way he feels comfortable expressing his feelings about a person.

Your inability to understand the situation and trying to make something out of nothing is not surprising.
The guy told whacky stories. Multiple people on this thread have said as much. I agree. I mentioned it once and posted some of the best bits.
If this offends you somehow and you think it’s the same as accusing someone of being a liar, I can’t help you. Says a lot about you though.

Is this conversation a work of performance art I'm not aware of? I have to say it does nicely emphasise the disembodied nature of relationships in the post war epoch, or something like that

I've had two memorable experiences purchasing art.
The first was after being given a few hundred dollars to spend on art as a moving present. I didn't know what I wanted but did find myself wandering around Sydney one Saturday afternoon and stumbled into the Charles Billich gallery. Based on my sweat stained attire and hungover state I didn't belong here but was politely greeted by a petite woman who offered to show me around. This art, manly paintings of cityscapes and dancing women, was intense, full of detail and very contemporary. The prices for originals were intense too, mainly in the 5 figures. I asked to see their cheapest prints. Ended up going home with gorgeous 401/500 print of Sydney harbour that now has a prominent position in my home.
The 2nd time I bought an original. It was on my honeymoon when my new wife and I stumbled into an art gallery, this time in a modest building in a tiny one street village. There a small water colour of a kookaburra caught my eye and when I saw the very reasonable price had to have it. Things got confusing though when I went to buy the painting the seller asked if there was any way I could leave it there. I was starting to get upset and having a shut up and take my money moment but eventually I understood the request. The gallery had just opened that week and they a big opening event planned for the next day. They wanted to have all the paintings available to show. We were going back that way so I agreed and ended up getting to meet the artist the next day. I asked her if the kookaburra posed for the painting and she giggled and said she painted from memory. I couldn't think of much else to ask her but could tell she was excited being the first person to sell a painting. I bet the other artists were jealous.

For maybe the most abrasive poster on this forum, you sure are thin skinned. You thought my post above responding to a question was an attempt to run you off the site? You're paranoid.
