I wonder what amazing decisions Ward makes tonight? Maybe Nesterov at C? Dube in net? Lucic on D?

With Ward behind the bench I'm not expecting a W.

I hate to think this way but unless Markstrom steals this game we are going to get slaughtered. We are going to dump pucks in and not retrieve them against a team with two of the best offensive players in the game that is built on speed. The Oilers have a crap D and shoddy goaltending but we won't be able to expose that weakness like we should because we are playing Geoff Ward hockey.

I wonder what the stats are in the BOA under Ward.

A battle of two flawed and average teams. Today we find out which is worse.

I think these teams are closer in quality than we'd like to admit.

Hoping for a flames win, expecting to see the oilers top players & PP to drive the flames season to rock bottom.

I'm expecting the flames to dress Bennett for no other reason than that the flames have a weak coach and management.

Go flames go...

Doubt Ryan is playing tonight. Have to think Bennett back in . Like to see Robinson in for Simon.

Flames need to win the battle of Alberta . Think it’s between us and Edmonton for last playoff spot.

It is weird to see people say stuff like this which essentially assumes that Winnipeg is a lock for the playoffs. The Jets have played a total of three games on the road, two of which were in Ottawa.

The Oilers suck, and Calgary will feast on them tonight.

I’d say Winnipeg looks excellent this year. They have very good forwards that are also committed to back checking hard which is helping their weak spot which is their defence. Even their defence looks like they’re seeing development. Throw in Hellebuyck and yeah I think they are very likely to make the playoffs.

Not to mention they have Dubois inbound which is going to make them even tougher to beat.

Lock might be a bit strong but I really like their odds.

I think its pretty likely Montreal and Toronto makes it and Ottawa doesn't. That leaves 2 spots for the 4 western teams. Our record on a points percentage basis is only a fraction of a point better than the Canucks, and behind both the Oilers and Jets.

With so many head to head games this year I think the hate will be flowing by the end of the season.

They look great on home ice and playing the Ottawa Senators. We shall see how it holds once they get on the road.

Anyhow. Edmonton is garbage, and the Flames will beat them very badly tonight; David Staples will pee in his own bathroom sink.

Defensively, I'm looking forward to seeing how well Tanev and Hanifin handle McDavid and Drysaddle. They're an elite defensive pairing by all measures this year, so let's see how they do against elite point producers.

We need Tkachuk to show up tonight in a bad way as well. Kelly Hrudy mentioned how it's tough to play the game the way he plays it every single night and to a certain extent I get that, but damn man, he's a multi-millionaire playing in a shortened season every other night against a bunch of weak Canadian teams. This season, of all seasons, should be the one in which he shines.

Just please, for the love of God, I hope tonight the Flames show they're the advanced stats darlings they've been this season. That shooting percentage will go up eventually and the rest of the possession metrics are already there. This team is clearly better than they've shown.

Bennett playing would be pretty hilarious. After scratching him and Bennett's comments. What a gong show by Ward and Treliving like usual.

That was a disturbing post from a good poster but I chalk it up to evidence that this pandemic is having an adverse impact on everyone's mental health.

As for the game, I really hope the Flames just show up for all 60 minutes. We have the advantage in net and on the backend, so theoretically we are the better team and should win. Tippett will likely shorten the bench about 10 minutes into the game so really hoping that Ward at least tries to avoid having the 4th line out against McDavid or Draisaitl.

Has there ever been a 4th line player more talked about on this site than Sam Bennett? It’s insane how much focus and attention this borderline NHL player gets. Could you imagine if we sat around and talking about Gawdin this much because they aren’t that far off to be perfectly honest. Pages upon pages of Bennett discussion- all because where he was drafted, but people need to ignore where he was drafted because it was wrong and a sunk cost. If the draft were recast today, where would Sam get drafted?

Anyway who cares? It’s not like adding Bennett in tonight “puts us over the edge”. Sam has floated around regular seasons here for what, 5 fataing years or something? How much evidence do people require here that he is a non-factor in the regular season? In fact possible net positive as probably 1 less PK we need to worry about.

And then for this completely irrelevant overrated scrub to go public with a trade request which only hurts the Flames in asset management? Ya no #### he is scratched but who the hell cares? It’s akin to scratching Simon or Lucic, nothing changes.

The only thing that helps the Flames tonight is prayer and hope that Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano and Lindholm / Tkachuk decide to put in more than a 40 minute effort so here’s to hoping I guess.

Bad take.

Highest ever draft pick of the franchise.

Arguably best playoff performer we’ve had over the past decade.

Of course we’re going to discuss it.

Other than contributions from a psychotic puppet, winning hockey games takes team effort and commitment to D. We know the Grease have trouble with these. A point which is demonstrated below:

Spoiler!

Go Flames.

Wrong. What % of games is Bennett useless in? What % of games is regular season vs. Playoffs? There’s your answer.

Further, highest ever draft pick- who gives a ####? This was how many years ago? It’s completely irrelevant today as to decide his asset value or his on ice value. Could not be more irrelevant.

What’s crazy is the amount of runway this guy has got simply because of where people incorrectly drafted him at.

We have a LOT of evidence of him being useless.
