Here in the real world it looks ridiculous.
Why do you feel the overwhelming need to talk about him?

Textcritic has this really weird obsession with Valimaki..... and anyone that posts about him.

You honestly didn't expect more from Valimaki?

Were you one of the few Flame fans that weren't disappointed that they wouldn't play him in the playoffs because of the expansion implications?

Also Stanley is just a shocking story. He was written off by most analysts that he wouldn't get a Tim Rambolt sniff of the NHL. If he got benched for the rest of the season he has exceeded expectations for 2021.

That he could be mentioned in a comparison with Valimaki over any 8 game stretch ever is wackadoodle
Valimaki is looking better and better IMO.

His confidence is growing and I like how active he is in the offensive zone. Especially considering he back checks hard when the puck goes the other way.

You do understand that Valimaki is a Defenseman? Not to put a fine line on it while a d-man can be caught up the ice getting back into a defensive position is not considered back checking..

Hahaha I can’t tell if you are trying to pick a fight or just being a smart ass?

Either way I like that Valimaki is so engaged in the offensive zone. Cycling the puck and swapping positions when there are lanes available throws off the opposing team and can create offensive opportunities as things open up in the confusion.

I keep thinking about how brutal Rittich is a giving up bad goals.

This is why he was stapled to the bench in the playoffs.

He’s (Biddington) at the top of the NHL in not allowing low-percentage chances against. He only allowed one low-percentage goal on 129 shots this season. That’s neat because now they’ve got a good team in St. Louis that’s leaning on their goaltender they once didn’t have. Now they have a guy in there who’s able to close it down.

David Rittich was last in that category — 10 goals on 126 low-percentage shots. Binnington shuts the door when the team is up by a goal, doesn’t get rattled and doesn’t give up the bad goal where Rittich does.

What are you expecting out of him at this point? He's seeing limited minutes and no PP time 9 games into the season thus far. At this point he's showing a growing comfort level to start to jump into the play somewhat, and typically moves the puck well - some of his stretch passes and assists have been outstanding.

There have been miscues defensively at times, but really any d man coming into the league is going to miss in their own end until they've played some significant games. Gap control, timing all come with experience. He's been just fine and at worst is showing enough to project him as a second pairing player if he doesn't improve at all from now and that isn't going to happen.

Oh and as an aside ...

Game Score is an interesting statistic, but it's not the best stat for how a player is playing .. it's more a rating of how things went.

Take Tkachuk for example ... number one game score from last night's game because he scored two goals, but overall he had another pretty dismal game. He was last on the team in shot attempt spits, and under water in expected goal splits, scoring chances and high danger chances.

Can't argue scoring two goals is important, but it's not the same as saying he played the best or was the best player on the ice.

I believe his % of completed passes through his feet was pretty low last night, too.
