Maybe they should just go to 49 games for US divisions (7x7) and 48 for CAN (6x8).

It's certainly not trending well. I think I just saw a ticker on TV reporting that the women's league that was in a bubble just suspended operation due to covid.

They weren't really in a bubble.

And a Canadian team still won't win the Cup!

The Avs-Blues and Coyotes-Wild games for Feb. 6 were postponed earlier this week. This allows the rescheduling for the Coyotes-Blues to be played on Feb. 6.

Are all the Canadian teams going to get a month and a half long vacation at the end of the regular season?

After only three weeks it seems like the NHL has been hit with Covid quite a bit harder than other leagues like the NFL and NBA (although I don't follow the NBA very much so I don't know fully how bad they have been.)

Are the NHL precautions not strong enough? Is the NHL just quicker with shutting down teams and postponing games to limit spread compared with other leagues?

One of the unintended consequences of the weirdness of this season, with taxi squads and the AHL kind of in limbo, is the roster churn among #3 goalies. It's definitely noticeable for teams with sub-optimal goaltending.

The Oilers opened camp with Anton Forsberg at #3. Then they put him on waivers just before the season started. Carolina claimed him, then waived him three days later. Then Winnipeg claimed him. With all of the quarantine rules when moving from place to place, he probably hasn't even had time to put on his pads.

Troy Grosenick started the season with the Kings. Then he was waived. Then he was claimed by Edmonton when their #2 goalie was injured. He waited in quarantine for a while, dressed as a backup for a couple of games, then Edmonton waived him. He's now back with the Kings.

I've always felt bad for the guys on the bottom of rosters. Seems like a stressful lifestyle.

So more Buffalo games, and NJ games postponed. Buffalo was supposed to play Washington twice this week. NJ was supposed to play Philly twice.

What they should do is adjust the schedule to have Wsh-Phi play twice now instead of them both sitting around for no reason. Flyers are already at the Caps tomorrow, then both were supposed to travel. Philly home and Washington to Buffalo. Then with two less Wsh-Phi games later in the season they may be able to get some of those postponed games done without tacking them on to the end of the schedule.

Two more Wild games also PPD if anyone gives two shakes about them.

Apparently they are updating the schedule to fit postponed games in before the end of the season. Updating it a lot actually. Here’s a list of every moved game https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-game-2020-21/

This is actually a good plan, but wonder how much more rescheduling room they have till they actually have to start cancelling games. We are still in the first quarter of the season.

Flyers/Caps is off tonight, plus a whole bunch of other dominos falling between games and officials from the Sabres/Devils

https://russianmachineneverbreaks.co...game-in-doubt/

also, Samsonov got hit hard with symptoms, this should freak out any elite athlete that values their lungs. yes, almost all of them would probably get past the virus with few or no symptoms, but those unlucky with the ahem, Russian Roulette could be changing the trajectory of their careers

#NHL plans to release a statement later today explaining what transpired in Vegas last night.

My (unconfirmed) understanding is VGK received a positive Covid test result for a player during the 2nd period. Golden Knights practice today was cancelled due to Covid-19 protocol.

^ I don't understand how they got a positive test result DURING the game. How are they allowed to play before they all clear with a negative test? That doesn't seem that complicated...

In general, I can't believe they've had so many issues in the NHL compared to the NBA, MLB, NFL, etc. Another big one was F1, which got a whole season in with hundreds of people travelling around the world to make the season happen. Are hockey players that dumb that they can't just go to the rink, and then go home to their piles of money? Doesn't need to be bars & b*tches every night in 2021 still does it? /rant

Probably the difference in turn around times between the rapid tests they do constantly vs the PCMR test which takes a lot longer to produce results.

They probably can't feasibly rely solely on the PCMR results coming back in time, so they supplement them with the rapid tests but it allows for some of these issues to pop up potentially.
