Is there a penalty, if a team claimed the player they wanted and then proceeded to put them on waivers? If they didn't clear and there was no penalty, why not take the chance? I really don't know all the small details surrounding waivers, so there must be something that would stop teams from doing this.

If the first team actually still wants the player, they can make a claim when the second team waives him. And if no other team makes a claim, that player is now considered to have cleared waivers.

If another team wants the player, they would simply claim him when you put him on waivers.

So the only way what you are describing works is if you are the only team (including the original team) that wants the player.

Generally, when something like that is the case, the team will trade that player to you for peanuts, after clearing waivers. It's much easier for everyone that way.

I think claiming a player off waivers costs some money.

Given the presumed two week quarantine...the only eligible player for the flames on that list would be Petan...pass.

Because he is not very good.

Outside of Shaggy McAvi and raisaitl, would this roster beat the no goods?

I know it's poor form to bump old threads... but wow.

Gustav Forsling has gone from waiver wire claim to top pair on a cup contender.

It's been amazing to see both he and Weegar elevate to become the de facto top pair. Both guys were borderline players last year, but had the skating and skills to be good NHLers. I never thought I would see this though.

They continue to win, all of this without Ekblad too who was having a Norris season.
