The reason he didn't have surgery right away is because he was deciding whether or not surgery was the best option. You know, it isn't always the best thing to do, and it sucks. Is it any wonder that a player will put it off until it becomes obviously the best solution?
There is no conspiracy here, and no, losing their top defenseman for a full season is not remotely "team friendly" for the Oilers. They were already extremely thin on defence with Klefbom in the lineup. Now they look like an AHL team on the back end and in goal.
