The Water Myth
It is a common belief that you have to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day, but this myth comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of some basic physiology.

It is a common belief that you have to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day. Almost everyone has heard this recommendation at some point although if you were to ask someone why you need to drink this much water every day, they probably wouldn’t be able to tell you. There is usually some vague idea that you need to drink water to flush toxins out of your system. Perhaps someone will suggest that drinking water is good for your kidneys since they filter the blood and regulate water balance. Unfortunately, none of these ideas is quite true and the 6-8 glasses myth comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of some basic physiology.
If you are thirsty, drink water. If you are not thirsty, then you do not need to go out and purposefully drink 6-8 glasses of water a day since you will probably get all the water in your regular diet. One important caveat to remember though is that on hot summer days, your water losses from sweating go up and if you plan to spend some time out doors, having water with you is important to avoid dehydration and heat stroke. While the thirst reflex is pretty reliable, it does tend to fade with age and older people are more likely to become dehydrated without realizing it. Thus, the take home message is drink water when you are thirsty, but on very hot days it might not be a bad idea to stay ahead of the curve and keep hydrated.
There is a common notion out there that water, given that it is so critical for life, must be able to prevent disease. Sadly, drinking more than the necessary daily amount will not flush toxins out of your system, nor will it help your kidneys. The only change you will see is that your urine goes from yellow to clear, which actually has no medical implications for your health. So, you don’t have to waste any energy worrying about getting your 6-8 glasses of water a day. You have been unconsciously been doing it every day of your life.

Overhydration
“When people drink too much water, it dilutes the sodium in the blood to a level that is too low.”
Some of the symptoms of low blood sodium, or hyponatremia, are the same as dehydration — nausea, vomiting, headaches, convulsions, brain swelling — and can even cause death.

My wife accuses me of being addicted to water. I love it. There is nothing better than glasses ice water through the day, and I even go as far as keeping a giant yeti mug filled with ice and water beside my bed for midnight hydration.
I get pretty sick of always taking a wiz though. Getting up 2-3 times a night is pretty annoying.

I don't really get the water thing. Even at the gym I hardly drink water.

As far as being sick of something, I'm tired of putting lights up and taking them down every Christmas. Those permanent led lights seem like the way to go.

I have a cooled water dispenser on my fridge but I don't use it because it takes longer than filling it up at the sink. I have tried filling it up out of the tub for speed, but I have some weird psychological thing where water from the bathroom doesn't taste quite right compared with water from the kitchen sink.

Yeah those LEDs do seem perfect. I also got sick of putting up lights a couple years ago. I have pot lights on my soffits, though, so I cut out circles from translucent coloured plastic and I stick them to the pot lights using poster putty. Looks semi-okay and is easier than Christmas lights.

I got them this year. Game changer.
I am with everyone on the kitchen. Especially with everyone being at home. It takes so much time to keep it presentable and virtually none to devastate it.

I wanted them this year, but by the time I had them come out it was too late to get them before Christmas, so I decided to put up my own one more time. Hopefully this was the last time for that though!

Yea, nothing seems well made anymore, it sucks. You spend money on stuff and all of it is engineered with planned obsolescence- which IMO should be borderline illegal or heavily regulated. You want to make regulations or rules to benefit the environment? How about preventing refrigerators or literally any other items from headed to the landfills way sooner than they need to? Anything that’s older seems to be made better- why can’t we have that again? Also hard on finances for the middle class.
Anyway what I’m sick of is Tupperware and our Tupperware drawer. Different sizes, hard to organize, somehow we lose lids all the time and I have no idea how this is possible (little kids I guess) and the drawer is a freaking mess all the time. I spend an inordinate amount of time staring at our Tupperware drawer searching for a match for leftover food. They’re also super annoying to clean and in dishwasher don’t get dry very well.

The dishwasher.
Loading/running/unloading constantly monitoring if it's clean/dirty or needs to be loaded/run/unloaded at any given time. It's more work than taking care of a pet with none of the snuggly rewards.

I’m shocked people here prefer bottled. I have never purchased a bottle of water for my own use or for my house (just my office for clients). The stuff that comes out of the tap is just fine in Albertan cities.

Fair enough. my following response is not intended to make light of colitis but is more in line with the preceding comment:
My wife decided the family all needed to do an intestinal cleanse. After many years of resisting I finally gave in. Liquid poop initially and since then a lack of satisfying dumps has me down in the dumps.

I don’t buy bottled water either and find that used to be the case. I am noticing more often that from time to time you get a bit of odor to Calgary tap water. A hint of sulfur, a bit of chlorine.
A second layer of filtration at home is needed
It varies but I am wondering if there has been some change and the water treatment facilities are needing some review

I grew up on well water which was fantastic.. Calgary water is disgusting in comparison. A simple filter on the fridge solves that though so no need for bottles.

But literally nobody in this thread has said they prefer bottled water. We've talked about filling up our water bottles, but that implies we're using siggs or nalgenes or contigos or whatever other brands of refillable drink containers there are. Haven't seen anyone say they prefer Nestlé for the taste.
