Starting him on our PP1 because of respect is a terrible idea. His shot has dried up, would like to see him used differently. No disrespect at all, just help us help you get to a cup Gio!

I'd say Valimaki is 100% ready based on what I watched in terms of his recent play and how hard he has worked to get back ready to play.

He won't get better if he doesn't get reps and right now he needs ice time.

If Ward doesn't understand this then he shouldn't be coaching and or whoever is handling special teams . Seriously...who on our roster right now coming in cold is better. ??
Our powernplay is an abysmally bad bad bad joke and we need to be trying everything in our power and use everyplayer at our disposal until something clicks.

Hell....the whole league is aware of how bad we are.....oh oh...here's the Flames scary power play...better watch out. ...oi very!!!

11th in PP% in the regular season and 2nd in the playoffs is a bad, bad, bad joke?

Also, from the Gustafsson discussion:

Gustafsson looked so confortable on the PP. He was a wonderful passer and like to make. A move or two to open up a few lanes.

From a few of Valimakis highlights from his stint in Finland I definitely could see him become a PP qb this team needs.

Hey so tell me then. What did we end up with ? Seriously? I'm talking about some silver cup we are playing for here. So GREAT we had a awesome powerplay and ALL but for the mostnpart we can't win games with just the PP...holding leads, winning games is what matters .

Not trying to be disrespectful at all here but I've watched this team for 30 years and its been mostly mediocrity at best.

We now have an opportunity with Raz and Valimaki and some up and comers like Dube and Eat bread to be consistent and better and dangerous all the time is where I'm going.

Yeah...stats are great BUT wins when they matter are better and I think we have the personell to be successful if they are used properly.

I remember reading some advanced analytics that Hanifin has terrific zone entry statistics. Which is crucial for PP to maintain possession.

Apparently Rasmus is also very skilled at exit and entry.

https://theathletic.co.uk/1892364/20...ng-defensemen/

I would favor trying him and Andersson on the points as the PP2 D-combination.

Gio can start PP1 and then get replaced by Valimaki when ready. Allows to continue with Lindholm on right side point.

You're not being disrespectful but you are forgetting that what I was replying to was that you specifically said the powerplay was an abysmally bad, bad, bad joke. Now you're saying it was great.

And I wouldn't disagree with your statement here; this team has been pretty mediocre over that period of time. I understand the frustration in being a fan of this team.

If you read some of the GTs if the Flames don't score on every single power play then it's bad.

You would not be at fault if you believed the T in GT stood for Tantrum

Biggest PP gripes don't have to do with the lack of scoring:

1.) Sh0o0o0o0o0o0oo0oooot
2.) Omg they dumped the puck why would you do that on a powerplay
3.) When I say 'shoot' I don't mean 'blast it into the shinpads'
4.) WHY IS BROUWER STILL OUT THERE??
5.) WHY IS BENNETT NOT OUT THERE??

* don’t forget the drop pass on zone entries that pretty every team has in their arsenal and uses sometime

I was going to suggest that 2018-19 Gio be the #1PP d-man.

Looking at the 2018-19 stats Gio was way up the field of PPP/60 at 20th spot out of 84 with 4.88 ppp/60

In 2019-20 Gio was once again the best Flames D-man with 4.12 PPP/60 good for 44th spot out of the 79 NHL D-men That play more than 1 minute pp /game and 40 or more games.

In 2018-19 Hanifin was #53 with 3.41 ppp/60 and Andersson was #80 with 1.52 ppp/60

In 2019-20 Hanifin was #60 with 3.30 ppp/60 and Andersson was #74 with 2.31 ppp/60

Perhaps the lack of solid responsible defense from the Flames PP forwards puts a greater emphasis on defense for the lone Flame D-man.

I think by the 20 game mark Valimaki could be the guy doing the job.

What's with this whole when Valimaki is ready thing? When has Gio ever been "ready" for pp1 duties? he's never been a great power play QB. We already know Valimaki is poised with the puck and has great offensive instincts. Give him all of camp and pre season (if there is any type of pre season) to work on being pp1 QB. That plus him already coming in at game speed should be enough for him to be ready out of the gate.

Then I think Andersson or Hanifin should be on pp2. Maybe both with Magiapane, Dube and Bennett.

Valimaki and Andersson are no MacInnis and Suter but I’m so excited too see those two paired up.
