For the minimum I have no problem if Hamonic comes back.
If he wants a show me deal I assume Vancouver would be the more desirable location. We know what he is in Calgary which is a bottom pairing Dman worth anywhere from the minimum to 1.5M and should only be signed for 1-2 years max.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I assume Hamonic would only play home games and just stay in Calgary to more or less make a bubble for himself? Regardless, no thanks.

I don't hate the idea given the compressed schedule. Trades are also likely to be more difficult to make this year. Injuries will happen and Hamonic is another depth defender.
Kylington having not signed yet is confusing, but perhaps his demands are too high for the Flames.

I choose to view this as a negotiating tactic in the Kylington conversation. At least, that's what I hope it is.
Let him go play in Vancouver and tank whatever pairing he's on with that team. He's had more than enough time here and has never been better than average. Even as a depth player you've got to think there are better options out there.

For all the flack Hamonic gets as a player, we started off pretty pleasantly surprised with Forbort against WPG, before his defending fall off a cliff vs Dallas.
Hamonic in for Forbort sure would have been nice. I doubt he'd look as lost on that 30 sec left game winner by Oleksiak.

Calgary and Vancouver "in on Hamonic"
Kind of confused why people are saying this doesn’t make any sense?
Everyone knows Treliving loves loading up on defensive depth before the playoffs. If this saves us from trading a 3rd for a pending UFA at the deadline I’m all for it.
Hamonic is a better option than Yelesin and Petrovic when we run into injuries
Left side:
Gio
Hanifin
Valimaki
Kylington
Mackey
Right side:
Andersson
Tanev
Nesterov
Hamonic
Yelesin

The flames need another d.
Last year 7 dressed for roughly half the games or more. Plus a couple more on spot duty. Plus the 2 deadline adds.
Right now the 7th d is petrovic or a 1st year pro. Those aren’t good options to play half the time.

I like it if he's the Stone replacement, but not as a full time roster player

I can't believe I'm about to say this since I'm a big believer in stay-at-home D, but we need a d-man who is more offensive than Hamonic.
The loss of Gustafsson is going to hurt the PP if we don't replace him. The hope is Andersson can fill the PP1 quarterback role, but he is still so inexperienced. Kylington is a long shot because his defense needs a lot of improving before they reward him with PP time.
I'd rather Vatanen if he's willing.

The roster is likely to be expanded this year. In which case it makes sense the Flames are adding depth. The Flames really have a small defense. Andersson is basically the only physical player on the roster. It might be good to slot Hamonic in during heavier games, Kyllington against teams that play with pace.
Also worth noting that it is almost guaranteed that Tanev will miss some time.

As a depth Dman for close to league minimum I see it being a good fit. Keep him on the taxi squad in case there is some positive covid tests or injuries.

I'm okay with this if it's a very small one-year deal. I don't know what's going to happen with Kylington, I don't know if Valimaki will stay healthy, and I'm not comfortable enough with our situation to say that Yelesin or someone like that from Stockton is ready to jump in.
If you limit his minutes and keep him as an injury fill-in, I don't see a lot of harm in it.

You know Benning. He saw a player 6 or 7 years ago that was good and assumes that’s the level they are currently at.

I agree I can’t see Hamonic coming back as he declined earlier in the bubble situation. The only way he comes back, is if by missing a year he figures it likely means retirement as he would have slowed to much missing that amount of time.

I know of some players who are waiting to sign until they see the complete terms of the Return to Play. For example, if players do opt to defer more money this season, they'll try and sign a contract that goes even lighter on 20-21 dollars. That could be the case with Kylington.
