For competitive players the Staunton design is kind of the gold standard. Generally you are looking for a 3.75 inch King. Serious players usually hate funny looking or novelty type sets even if they are luxurious. After watching "The Queens Gambit" on Netflix, my family has started playing chess every day (after years of playing very sporadically), and we're really enjoying it.
I would like to buy a chess set as a gift, ideally spending $100 - $200.
It's hard to gauge quality online, but does anyone have a suggestion for a particular set that would make a nice gift?
Are you opposed to the idea of spending several times more to get a 3D printer so that you can print several really cool sets and other things in general? (pieces and board options, every one in fam gets a unique set?)
