WOOF. Fire your agent, Hall.
Buffalo has a decent group of forwards, but the defense is pretty subpar and the goaltending is barely NHL level.
Terrible choice. His options must have dried up over the last couple of days. That's the fault of the agent.

I thought Hall's camp said they were waiting for a team to clear cap before he signs. Buffalo has loads of room and not a place to go if he truly wants to win.
Did they think Vegas was clearing for him?
I suppose the team he was going to sign had a change of heart.

This reeks of "let me play with Eichel, get some crazy stats, and then sign my retirement contract with lots and lots of bank".

I get why Buffalo would do it, but I don't really see why Hall would (unless it's something stupid like 14 million/year for two years).
He could get paid ~4 years of salary in two years, and would probably still young enough to get another good 5-6 year deal.

Clearly, with the "Covid cap" the offers weren't coming in. Sign a short-term deal until the cap goes up.

1 year deal gives the impression he really didn't go where he wanted to go! It is not like he didn't have other good options out there!

He isn't getting more than Eichel's 10M.

The good news, if this is true, is that he didn't sign with a divisional rival.

Reports were that Hall wanted stability and a chance to win.
Then chooses Buffalo?!

Wow this is out of left field. I'm not surprised the Sabres would make a splash but surprised Hall would sign there of all places.

Unless it's max AAV, really dumb and expected from Hall.

Guess they made Eichel happy. Other than playing with Eichel I have no idea why he would choose sabres? No goaltending , and an ownership that is near bottom of the league.

Is this a prelude to something bigger that isn't apparent just yet? This makes no sense whatsoever!

Maybe it was Calgary and they couldn't clear the space up. This opens the door for another option to get it done. That stability would be a long term deal that Calgary just can;t offer right now.
