Yikes. Ottawa has the cap space to do it, but I would not have been okay with that kind of deal if it were the Flames.

Have to get to the floor somehow...but don't like the AAV

It is odd looking at cap friendly and seeing the Senators only have three roster forwards signed as of this moment.

TSN says it's a 5 year deal, making the AAV $5M. That makes more sense.

I think it makes some sense for the Senators. They get stability in net for a few years and they most likely wont be competitive for the next 3-4 years so by the time the deal is up they can see if Murry is worth keeping.

Plus they get to the floor easier and when its time to sign the young players they have, the contact will be done.

How does this even make sense? 4.25 would be overpayment.

I know he won a cup but what has he done in recent history to warrant this type of money? Maybe the Senators simply have to overpay to keep players as if I was a player I wouldn't want anything to do with them due to their ownership.

That's an ugly contract. Also puts a LOT of pressure on Murray to perform at a level he hasn't performed at for a long time. He is young, but he hasn't been playing anywhere near the level that he is now going to be paid to do.
