LOL...watching the NHL network.

They go to commercial now with a tweet saying "Vancouver goalie news is coming soon..."

Uh...y'all got full access to Twitter on that network, right?

Yeah, makes a lot of sense for the Canucks.

Betting on himself to earn another good deal when the market rebounds, this makes a lot of sense for both sides.

Holtby is coming in for the perfect amount of term and for a 750 - 1.5 mill less a year. It's the right call team wise even if it sucks a little cause Marky was a great goalie and great person.
Yep, I'll miss markstrom

Sucks the expansion draft is where it is

But this is a good deal, cup winner, cap hit is ok, but the term makes it great

Also is young enough that if demko isnt the guy, he can bridge to dipietro

Good signing.

Takes away an option for Flames and Oilers, too.

I wouldn't want Holtby on the Flames, but I agree that the Canucks goal here isn't to rely on him completely. Demko is the future and Holtby is the guy to help ease the pressure.

In Calgary, all the pressure would be on Holtby. Not that I mind Rittich as a back-up, but I don't think he is a future #1 like Demko.

Damn, if we don't sign Markstrom I would have wanted Holtby. Especially with that contract

This is good business for Van IMO. He was baad last year, but some weird things going on with his underlying numbers and could potentially bounce back.

I would have preferred this deal to 6 years and $6M for Markstrom if it comes down to that.

Holtby has been brutal the last 3 years.

At least it's short term and not an overly high number.

Could end up being a great addition to the Canucks from a Flames/Pacific Division opposition POV.

Flames had to stop stop gapping things. There are no goalies in the Flames system to stop-gap too. Wolf may have potential, but smaller goalies have a much harder time making that leap.

Is it possible the Markstrom deal is a bit of a dog in years 4 - 6? Yeah, but it's possible he carries you to a cup before then.

Riiighttt lol

Literally all of Canucks Reddit/hfboards/twitter and CDC are all happy with this signing.

2years is perfect term for the Seattle draft and a mentor for Demko.

All I know is Ian Clark will transform this man.. only a year older than Marky too.

It’s often been stated like this, but how often is an older goalie really a mentor to the younger guy, especially one who’s trying to get the starting job. Was Smith a mentor to Rittich? Was Talbot?
