Sounds right, Stastny is an okay player but his cap hit is atrocious.

Little replacement, makes a ton of sense.

WIN might be one of the only teams without any really bad deals on their books? No buyouts or retained salary. The last few years of Wheeler might not be great (he was right around PPG for the previous 4 seasons, so seems pretty FMV). Perreault underperformed his 4.125M hit (now 1 year left).

Blueline needs work.

Is Paui the Hawaiian member of the Stastny family?

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Pending a trade call, the VGK have traded Paul Statsny to Wpg for a 4th in 2022 and Carl Dahlstrom

Jets could have gotten more. In fact, it should’ve been the Knights giving the Jets a 4th.

What happens with Fleury now? Surely he doesn’t want to stay as a backup when he’s a starter. I imagine he becomes more attractive to every team who doesn’t get Markstrom?

I think sometimes it’s optics and maintaining relationships. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a helper trade between them again in the future.

The problem with moving Fleury is there are so many goaltenders available right now.

Also Vegas doesn't want to retain any salary on him. They need to find a 3rd team and pay the price for that 3rd team to retain salary for them.

Maybe now that they have the cap space to sign Pietrangelo, they are willing to retain themselves on Fleury...I believe this trade may move the needle a bit. I think Calgary throwing the Oilers 3rd at Vegas with 30%+ retained would be a great move.

Stastny's salary is 5.5 this season less the 900k that the Jets don't pay Dahlstrom to play in the AHL. It costs the Jets 4.6 in salary for a year with a cap hit of 6.5-.85= 5.65

Close to the 5.35 salary and Cap the Flames are paying Backlund

Now they can tell Laine that he is playing on the #1 line with Ehlers and Stastny.

I don't think you need to throw an asset to Vegas at all.

When most of these find a landing spot:

Holtby
Crawford
Markstrom
Smith
Anderson
Dell
Greiss
Lundqvist
Khudobin
Howard
Talbot
Miller
Domingue
Hutchinson
Schneider
Kinkaid

Vegas will have very few teams that have a spot for Fleury.

MAF is probably still the 2nd best goalie on that list

Of course his cap doesn’t work for most contending teams who need a goalie.

I wonder if he’d be willing to go to BUF

You're probably right...and if we are spending assets, I still like Kuemper better. However for us, I dont see a lot on that list that I like better than Fleury (outside of Markstrom and maybe Holtby).

I dont think sureloss is debating that. He is just suggesting that it wouldn't cost us a 3rd to get Fleury with 30%+ retained.

Vegas might have room to sign Pietrangelo if they use the 10% buffer, but they would still have to find a way to shed at least another 5 million if they signed him.

Depends if the Flames end up with (over pay) for Markstrom or Khudobin ... Do they want to go with Talbot as #1 and save a 3rd round pick in stead of 2 years of MAF at 4.9 M ( Vegas retains 30%)?

Same goes for everyone needing a #1 guy looking at that list. If it takes a 3rd to get it done...... some GMs think a 3rd is worth a couple of picks move up for a draft pick they would have gotten had they waited.
