I feel like Columbus is positioning themselves to take a contract (Nylander, Gaudreau) for a team that is going to take a run at Pietrangelo or Hall.
I can’t see Hall agreeing to go to the Jackets

I haven't been impressed by Murray much at all since he entered the NHL, and he has only played a full season once. The other seasons have all been 66 games or under. 4.6 million is a lot of money for a guy who I think is barely a top 4 defencemen with constant injury issues.
5th round pick was the best Columbus got to clear that salary. I am sure not taking any salary back further dropped Murray's value, but I don't think they would have gotten a 2nd for him with that cap hit.

Sure, he can log 20 minutes when healthy, but in 7 NHL seasons he's played fewer than 350 games. Only once has he missed fewer than 15 games and twice he's played fewer than 30.

Yup that's undeniably the big concern. Still a guy who can play at his level should in theory be worth more. Tough landscape though.

We said this last year and they were terrible, and they've since lost their Hart trophy winner.

This is going to be one weird off season. Wow.
A guy like that goes for a late 1st or two 2nds at a minimum at the deadline usually.
|
If he had 3 years left on his contract they may have got a 1st and 2 second rounder, but the price dropped with only one year left.

Is CBJ gearing up to make a big FA splash? Or are they just cutting their payroll?
I tend to think it's more of the latter.

And that was a 'good' day?
I'd hate to see a bad one then.

It has to be for Hall. They are a fantastic team throughout their lineup and possibly a guy like Hall could have been the difference maker in the Tampa series. They really miss Panarin.

I could see them chasing Hall, I don't see them landing him though.
Starting to think they could be a legit landing spot for Johnny though if the Flames land Hall.
It's clear Jarmo gives zero ####s and won't be afraid to trade for just two guaranteed years of Johnny Hockey. He's a risk taker no doubt.

John Shannon only has bad takes.

What can he trade tho that isn't all futures? He really wants to keep the rest of his roster intact

It'd probably be for futures, the Flames won't want to take cap back if they don't have to, and they're also trying to fill the holes in their roster with UFA's it seems like.

Hockey viz chart for him last couple years has been good actually, pretty good at surpressing shots in the d-zone.
Problem is he just can’t stay healthy.

Hall would be crazy to spend his career in Edmonton, New Jersey, Arizona and Columbus.

This is the first time he’s had a choice. Columbus is significantly underrated and on the ice are going to be good for a while. Plus going back east means he doesn’t have to go to Edmonton this year.
