That's a shame.

In 2018/19 he looked like he was going to break out into a Backlund level player. Then this past year we got the ghost of Jankowski. He was invisible out there. The play seemed to literally pass through him, like he was just skating up and down the ice without getting involved.

Also Dube and Mangiapane leapfrogged him in the depth chart by several magnitudes. Even Bennett and Lucic became strong contributors in our bottom six, while Jankowski does not so much.

I will state that he never seemed to complain about having to play a bottom six role. Wish him the best of luck, but I don't see a role for him on the Flames. I'd rather see the Flames rotate in a goons, vets, and energy guys into that #12 spot than play Jankowski.

He'll get 1M somewhere, not sure that should be with the Flames though.

The right move, but sucks.

I know a guy who's son grew up playing hockey with him. He says Janko is an excellent kid, was always respectful.

Funnily he has a different opinion on Nurse.

Pick #21 in the second round in the 2017 draft.

I think they still try to sign him. He is an NHLer and for a million bucks he can fill a couple different roles in the bottom 6.

If someone else offers him more and he leaves, so be it.

All the tools, no toolbox. He just hasn't shown the determination required to be effective.

Terrible year and an easy decision not to qualify. Having said that, I would be ok with him at league minimum or around $1mm. He can still be an NHLer/13th man on most rosters.

Janko probably gets another look elsewhere based on his penalty killing alone.

He had 2 very good initial seasons, followed up by a poor season. It makes sense not to qualify him, but I do hope the Flames manage to sign him to a 1 year, low dollar deal. Solid PK'er, and I think he is much better than average for a 4th line option. I am really curious to see if he rebounds, and think he is worth the risk.

A shame really, good rookie season and then an excellent sophomore season followed by this nightmare of a year. If it was flipped around and he struggled in year 2 and rebounded in year 3, it’s probably a different conversation. Is what it is though, cap space will be tight going forward. Good luck to Janko, I still see upside in him and think he will bounce back.

Considering the video and data we have available today, it may truly be the worst draft of all time.

After the Flames tried to trade him and made it public his play fell off.

I doubt that he would sign back with the Flames rather than catch on with another team as a UFA.

He is liable to do much better in a different situation where there are lower / no expectations.

Makes sense. His QO was far too high for his value.

Bonino, Rask, Johansson, Bjugstad, Eriksson Ek, Sturm

Not much as far as top 6 Cs, but certainly a lot to choose from for their 4th line. Janko seems redundant there.
