I don’t think anyone would advocate for Dave Nonis.
Conroy has mostly grown up in management under Treliving, so I’m not sure how hiring a less experienced version of the current GM is going to advance the ball.
So much of the job is luck. We will see how Yzerman does in Detroit - so far the bounces aren’t going his way with the draft lottery.

I want Treliving gone. I don't have any faith in him to properly build a successful NHL team. But unfortunately with the renewal of his contract, he isn't going anywhere any time soon. So it'll be wasted years.

I keep asking the same question. Who would actually fire Treliving? Or in other words who has the pull to make it happen? It seems King was the guy before.
Now, I think Treliving is pretty much on the same level as his bosses and many have come or been promoted after him.
Is it supposed to be the owners? Cause I don't even think they care lol

That was the most ‘who cares’ trade ever.
Didn’t we essentially just get a 6th round pick to give up a plug and take on a UFA goalie to be?
|
Backstrom stood on his head in the final game of the season against Minnesota, pushing the Flames up the standings ahead of Winnipeg who went on to draft Laine.
Not that any of this could have been predicted, mind you. I just thought it was a funny anecdote that highlights how this team can never, ever catch a break.

I wouldn't mind looking at Dean Lombardi. He is bad when tinkering a championship team but really good at building a team. Basically, the same as George McPhee.

How is this even a question?

This can’t be highlighted enough. And that 14/15 team was feasters no if’s, ands, or buts.
He’s made this team worse.
Yet he gets an extension probably because he toed the company line.

Get rid of him, so many wasted assets on a goalie and we still don't have one.
Bad coaches. Easy to say in hindsight but we keep the picks from Hamonic and Hamilton we could have potentially fixed the team, they needed a #1C and not more defense.

Some good moves but think its time to go. I think hes done ok with a flawed core he inherited and a handful of so so draft picks. But I think its a fair question because;
- the hamonic trade was a terrible failure in retrospect
- he made a huge mess of the goalie situation, instead of paying for quality repeatedly bringing in mediocre stopgaps in return for quality assets. Brian Elliott and Mike Smith instead of paying the price for quality when guys like bishop and fleury were on the market.
- he failed to lock up gaudreau and tkachuk long term trading term for AAV and left the flames long term outlook uncertain. Those guys will either cost more or walk sooner now. He perpetuated the mistake by cheaping out on locking up magiapane and probably costing the flames big money there.
Giordano is clearly declining rapidly this season, Johnny's about to walk and the goaltending situation is brutal.
Team needs a new direction and injection of youth and I dont know if he's the guy who should be doing it.
Id like to see Iginla come back in and start an apprenticeship with a view towards becoming gm like Sakic and Yzerman did. Maybe its just the night talking but why not do it with his old friend Conroy at the rudder.

Yeah he doesn’t get fired without approval from the owners

I think the first 3 years of Treliving's time here was partly (or mostly) Burke's fault. I think we wait and see what he does this off-season.
Let's also not forget that, despite last year's playoff upset, Tre's team was the second best in the NHL.

Let's not forget also that the hot streak from that ended roughly 20 months ago. From the 2019 All-Star game on, they weren't that hot.
I think we have to view that season as a big anomaly. In the bigger picture of the past five years, results have consistently remained the same for the most part.

The 2nd best team in the league loses in the Stanley Cup final.
This organization needs to deliver more, and we as fans need to stop making excuses for them.

That was a fluke... A prolonged heater. That team got exposed for the pretenders they were in the final months of the season, and definitely in the playoffs.
This is a garbage franchise, that I would rank ahead of only Edmonton

I think he probably gets another year at least. He was signed to a three-year extension just last year.
I also don't mind him getting a year. I'm not really afraid he'll make terrible knee-jerk reactions.
I do worry that he'll make bad trades anyway, but meh. It is what it is.

2nd best team in the league but I think proven now to be a team that folds under pressure. The battle games against the kings and oilers, the playoffs, gaudreau monahan and Co just do not show up for the tense heavy games. He's built a slightly above average regular season team (when u average out the seasons) that is poor in high pressure, physical games. Whether he goes or the team gets rebuilt something has to change.

Don't forget that he will waste money on some garbage coach that will get fired in a year, and the flames will be paying more money to fired coaches than they will the ones actually employed by them

Just to add a bit of positivity while still critiquing tre, can you all imagine if he had been able to pull the trigger on the rumored deal to send backlund and the tkachuk pick for puljujarvi.
At least we still have tkachuk moving forward regardless of the gm.
