Joe was never an Oiler...so advantage Colborne?

I liked him. I think all the hacking messed up his hands and took a lot of the wind out of his sails.

I played sports against Joe growing up. Incredible athlete and a nice, quiet kid.

He had a really bad wrist injury, which I think ultimately led to his short career.

I'm happy for him that he got to play for his hometown team.

I can't believe we drafted Greg Nemisz two spots ahead of John Carlson in that draft.

I was in the minority that wanted to give him a longer leash when he started producing a bit more- i felt like he was the type that really needed to build momentum and confidence to be successful.

I liked him on the roster. Shame that he didn't work out at all in Colorado.

I was expecting to read about Joe and what he's been up to lately in this thread. Kind of a pointless thread started, no?

I've always liked the guy for what he was. Guy was so money on the shootout. He just lacked that split second decision making and hockey vision that would have made him a great NHLer, as he had the hands for sure.

That beastmode shift in Game 1 vs the Canucks was the stuff of legend. Just too tired to even celebrate Russell's goal, just hunched over on the bench sucking wind.

Should be fondly remembered.
If I recall correctly Joe continued his charity work days after the Flames didn't qualify his contract. Something to do with the Canadian Armed Forces.

First game in Colorado he scored three, then just one for the other 61 games. Crazy.

He did a good job while here and was a great teammate by all accounts. I liked how he played and was not overpaid. I was happy he scored the hatty for the Avs. Tough break about the injuries.

I heard from multiple guys who played with and against him in minor hockey that he had the softest hands they've ever seen.

I liked Colborne as a player. When the Avs signed him for $2.5 per for 2 years, I recall Treliving's comment that Colborne wasn't going to sign for that in Calgary. In other words, Denver got a discount.

As a 26 year old player having a productive season on a team that missed the playoffs, it's a shame we didn't get a pick for him at the deadline instead of losing him for nothing. But better than making a mistake on a long term deal.

I actually like Joe Colbourne while he was a Flames. I never understood the dislike for him as some compared Janko to Colbourne. I was wondering where he is now if he's still with the Avs. That's the last I heard of him when he got injured on a play as he got decked by a dirty hit from a Canadiennes player and Iggy went after the guy a shift later.

I seem to remember Colborne having a huge run at the end of that year, with him and Backlund playing extremely well down the stretch. I think that is what outpriced him from returning the next season as a Flame. I feel at trade deadline, Flames management was probably pretty happy in what they had in Colborne as a player, and without the strong finishing stretch, he wasn't a 44 point player value yet to other teams.
