Of course, with the relaunch of you-know-who, the two most remarkable mascots...

The reason for that being the complete disparity in franchise ages and how older teams shift their identity and success over time, so it's harder to pick who Vegas compares to, for example. I also found that I couldn't really name sister franchises for every team, because there are some that really are in their own little strange world (like the unique tire fire in Ottawa).
Either way, it's a pretty fun exercise. CGY/PHI, EDM/NYI, WPG/BUF, and CHI/PIT were definitely the easiest comparisons for me.

How do you see WPG/BUF? Both are cold AF and no player wants to be there, but WPG is punches above its weight, strong management, stable management, preforms relatively well. What am I missing.
Same with COL/BOS, I can't make the immediate connection.
I agree some teams have no obvious comparable (Ottawa, Montreal, Vegas)

All I can think of is:
EDM = NG
I've got nothing else.

Yeah, the problem I ran into thinking about it was a complete lack of consistency when trying to compare two cities, so some criteria used to compare CGY/PHI is was weighted differently to me than WPG/BUF.
WPG/BUF to me:
- Undesirable spots for players (and generally, the world)
- Young stars, some that stand out (Eichel, Schiefele), with a 2nd overall pick that is good, but not exceptional considering the draft position (Laine, Reinhart - not saying they're equals)
- Both with one superstar over the past 30 years (Selanne - technically, Hasek)
- Both with a player who straight up decided they would rather not play hockey than play for them (Byfuglien, Berglund)
- They both have Dale Hawerchuk in their team hall of fame
- They like blue... a lot? Specifically switching between different shades of blue
- Both cities have completely pointless football teams
- Ridiculous names for their citizens (Winnipegger? Is this a "phrasing" thing? Buffalonian? Come on, sounds like baloney)
- Both generally suck, yet for some reason have like 1 fan on who hangs around on a Calgary Flames message board
So, as you can see, very careful and serious analysis

Edmonton is Pittsburgh’s evil twin. Get a generational pick and a near generation pick two years in a row. However the magnitude of Pittsburgh’s success is the same as the magnitude of Edmonton’s no goodness making Edmonton the evil mirror twin

No idea if it’s still the case but I’m damn near positive the Flyers used to have the same goal horn as the Flames. I’m talking mid 2000’s it was almost for sure.

Both need a lot of work to take the next step.

Nope, not even close. The Flames have been to 3 SC Finals and won the cup once in the last 34 years. The Leafs haven't made the Finals in 53 years!

Good one and I'll use that template.
VAN = BUF
Franchises established in 1970 who are stumbling and haven't won the Cup.

Calgarians isn't much better. We're like the offbrand Cardassians.

Maybe that'll rub off if we start trading with them again and get the necessary players needed for a championship team like what had happened in the late 80's.

It's hard to think of a contemporary sister franchise to the Red Wings.
Maybe Canadiens from expansion to the mid 90's are like DET from '85-'16?

As a fan of both the Flames and Flyers, I find your comparison...haunting.
