Another option would be to keep Roberts-Nieuwendyk-Fleury and have another line as Gaudreau-Gilmour-Iginla

You clearly never saw Roberts play. Matthew Tkachuk is nothing like Roberts who could scrap the heavy weights in the NHL and score 30-50 goals.

I don't know about Tkachuk's fighting ability but I certainly don't think 50 goals is out of the question.

Well to be fair to Tkachuk offensively his age 21/ 22 seasons offensively are well ahead of Roberts (never mind adjusting for era or linemates- although certainly Roberts was well down the list for PP opportunities etc)

Toughness you are right

Roberts skill levels is under appreciated
We remember him as a tough, power forward
But the guy hand had hands and could make skilled plays.

And these days 40 goals is really the new “50 goal scorer”. Definitely could see Tkachuk potting 40.

Flames were such a skilled team in the 80's that the only way for him to crack the lineup was to essentially be a goon. He almost had 300 penalty minutes in the 87/88 season which is crazy and he's 19th NHL all time penalty minutes despite being a skilled guy. He was never quite the same player after the serious neck injuries but still managed to be productive in Carolina and Toronto. Tkachuk is a very good player but I don't think he could impact a game like Roberts in his prime who could score a hat trick and scrap the opposing team's goon in the same game.
