Exclusively the people who were/are mad about the fancy library. Just to stick it to them.

Hopefully this isnt a 'CalgaryNEXT' scenario where we're promised that it's going to be amazing and it turned out to be half-assed disaster.
Thank god that nightmare never got off the ground despite promises of it being super awesome.

Except the library right? Isn’t that why it turned out so great? Hope a similar system controls this project.

That was all conceptual ideas. This has actually been awarded as a project. Meaning they had budget to complete actual designs.

Even that one had changes. There were a lot more glass panels on the facade in the initial design than what was built.

CalgaryNEXT never even got remotely close to this stage. Those renderings while arguably half-assed were not a disaster as it never got to a stage of an actual project design.

It must be tiring being that bitter.
You do know that CalgaryNEXT was conceptual right? That those designs were more for showing the master planning of the area, and not the final design? Perhaps if you bothered to spend some time asking valuable questions and less time complaining and whining, you'd know that?
It's really unfortunate the Flames never released the final CalgaryNEXT renderings of the arena that were done in 2016, which looks nothing like master planning concept released to the public in 2015 - if just so people like Locke could get even slightly educated on the world of design, construction and development.

This goes back all the way to 2015 with Locke. There's history there over this project. His post is reference to me, trust me.

The valuable question to ask about CalgaryNEXT was "Why did you think this was a good concept?"

This post is equally as harsh as the CalgaryNEXT concept was.

Yeah, but Architects are notorious at lying (maybe it's just under estimating) about the actual prices to acquire things. This will work in budget X...than it goes for Pricing and the market is 30% more.
Yes, I'm a bitter guy who has worked thru a lot of these Institutional style projects, and there will be a complete eff up of Design somewhere that leaves them scrambling for money to compensate for that, and chances are it will be scaled back to something that costs less.
If they have half a brain about them....they'll let the design team finish their work, do all of the virtual models by every trade, assess the problems...than begin Construction. They might spend an extra 6 months before they see anything happen at site, but the time at site would easily come down by that amount. Seems like most Construction owners are so antsy about getting shovels in the Ground...but than their site spends so much time with people getting nothing done which is where costs add up.

Don't forget change orders during contract administration, I know of a few firms in town who are notorious for that.

This is all accurate. I’m in Life Safety/Code Consulting, and we are constantly brought in at the end, when it’s waaaaay to late to fix a problem without adding significant cost and delays. Set a side a minuscule consulting fee for us and you’ll save delays and budget shattering change orders at the end of the project.
But nooooooo. “This looks nice”
