Tkachuk easily. Not because of his future, but for what he's already accomplished.

Went Tkachuk, but I loved hunter as a kid too.

Recall seeing his mug at southland leisure's local shop as part of my childhood.

Tim Hunter, as one of the Assistant Captains of the cup-era Flames, is my sentimental favourite. Always fun too watch during the old-school BOA days as well.

However, Chucky is definitely a big step above everyone else on this list.

After all these years I’m still upset Vesa Vitakoski didn’t turn into a solid player.

  • NHL Playoffs penalty-minutes leader: 1983 (Calgary - 70 PIM)
  • Calgary Flames team record: Most career penalty minutes (2,405)
  • Calgary Flames team record: Most penalty minutes in one season (375 in 1988-89)
  • Calgary Flames team record: Most penalty minutes in one playoff year (108 in 1986)
  • Tim Hunter currently ranks eighth on the NHL's all-time penalty minute leaders list with 3,142.

Voted Matty but still love me some freaking Saprykin. Who could ever forget his OT game 5 winner in the Cup finals what a beauty.

This one is going to be very different when Tkachuk switches to #7 after this season.

He'd better not.

#19 is a perfect number for a franchise forward.

Kobasew the only forward not to score a goal in 2004 playoffs. I had a dream a few days or weeks after those playoffs that he would've scored the OT winner in Game 7, after Leopold's chance went in.
The former GM in full display, out of ideas and having no contacts within the league's forcing him to bring in a former player of his, an out of shape Modin who lasted a handful of games before getting injured.
Blair Jones felt the wrath of Hartley one practice, never to return.
David Jones assisted on the 3 Flames goals in Game 6 2015 Vancouver win, and the game tying goal in game 1 of the series.

Few times in this 40 years of the franchise can you give credit to both the Canucks and the Oilers, but this is one time. The abject failure of both to pass on Tkachuk in the draft is unreal.

I'm pretty sure most of the great NHL franchises have a great #19 somewhere in their history.

Edit: Because quarantine...

Teams with at least two Finals appearances and at least one Cup... and their best #19.
Spoiler!

I voted Tkachuck, but I really do appreciate the importance of Hunter. When the Flames became tough enough to stand up to the early to mid 80's Oilers, it did get them a lot closer to being able to compete with them.

I do want to acknowledge that although Saprykin isn't even close, he absolutely played his best hockey as a Flame in that playoff run. Taking out Chelios in the Detroit series, and finishing off the Shift in Game 5. He was about the only guy who looked like he had anything left in the tank by the end of that run.

Rick Vaive wore 22. He wore 19 like Iggy wore 24 (part of a season). Best Leafs player who wore 19? Probably Lupul.
