That Drury trade to Calgary was so damn exciting ... felt like the Flames added a second star and would take off.
One year, 80 games, ... guy wants out and you almost forget he was a Flame.
Not sure he wore 18 for many games though as most images I found for him were in 37. Did he switch to 18 when the Flames reaquired McAmmond? Don't remember the story to be honest.
If The only two goals Stajan scores as a Flame were the 2015 game 6 winner, and the penalty shot goal after coming back from his son’s death, Stajan would still win this IMO.
I voted for Stajan here. I think he takes the cake for longevity and also had the highest crescendo in Game 6, R1, 2015. Lombardi is also an excellent choice.
A vote for Neal should be a week's suspension from the boards.

If 10 years ago you told me that I would be considering Matt Stajan the best Flame for any reason, it would not have been met well. I wanted to pick Lombardi. I mean, how could you not pick Lombardi when staking the names up. Drury is the best player on the list but didn't want to be here (and was only here the one season). Lombardi would be the natural choice. More goals than Stajan. Was more exciting to watch than Stajan. Much better hair than Stajan.
But against all the odds, Stajan left me with much more defining memories than Lombardi did. Those aforementioned two goals were a couple awesome memories. Stajan was always a whipping boy among the fans but on the ice he always accepting his role and trying his hardest, being a team player through and through, an ambassador to the community, well liked by teammates and staff alike, and just generally being a great guy (plus his wife was a great gal, also being a great ambassador to the community), how could I not pick him?

Voting Neal should be immediately grounds for banishment.

I was watching that game in 1983 Calgary/Vancouver when Rick Lanz tried to prevent Dave Hindmarch from cutting to the net and tripped him - Hindmarch fell on his side, and both knees slammed into the post - back when the nets didn't dislodge... it was awful.
Hindmarch had solidified as a good middle 6 NHLer - 25 years old, never played again.

"The Hindmarch Rule."
Net moorings used to be pipes sticking out of the ice about 4 inches (I think). It was virtually impossible to dislodged them without actually lifting them up and out.
After that, magnetic moorings were used.
Hindmarch was a favourite of Badger Bob's. A really good two-way player. Just not long enough a career.
Went with Stajan for impact/longevity.

I can't believe the best player to wear 18 in Calgary is Stajan.
I like Stajan the person but felt he was really average at everything, not good at any one aspect. Admittedly I couldn't get over the price we paid both in terms of the trade and his contracts that I felt were always too much for too long. Like hamonic, i think this organization sometimes falls too in love with the 'good guy'. Maybe they were really good in the room, with younger players, player/coaches if you will, because I honestly could never see his value on the ice. I thought of him as a 4th liner that made more than lots of the guys we would play in the top6 at the time.

This was a tough one for me. Lombardi was one of my favorite flames, but I really liked Stajan as a person representing the Flames. Decided to go with Lombardi, after accounting for recency bias.
